4 days after buying, first problem =(

Hi all again-
Just bought a 2003 MCS last Saturday and came out from work tonight and the passenger window won't go down. Awesome. Hoping I didn't make a mistake .

Also hoping it doesn't take 2 weeks to get service done. I bought the car from Carmax and they offered to take it to the local Mini dealer, but wouldn't it be better if I did it myself? Cut out the middle man so to speak?

Also, do most Mini dealers offer loaners or transportation to work? What if I didn't buy the car from them (haha doubt it)?

You took it to Carmax to get it fixed? The MINI comes with a warranty that can be used at any MINI dealership in the US. I think your best bet would be to take it to the nearest MINI dealership and have them fix it for you.

As for the loaner situation...it really depends on the dealer on whether or not you will get a loaner vehicle. I bet you can pretty much assume that they will provide you with some sort of shuttle service though, but not necessarily a loaner.

My closest dealer (about 80 miles away) does NOT provide me with a loaner (however I have seen them giving loaners to their BMW customer...which is B*S* in my opinion, but that's a whole different story). However, they have a shuttle service that will take you anywhere that is within a 50 mile radius of the dealership, and pick you back up when the MINI is ready. I usually just take it to the closest movie theatre and catch a couple movies while my MINI is being serviced.

No I bought it from Carmax and they offered (because it was within 30 days) to take it to the Mini dealer for me, give me a loaner and pick it up when it's fixed...

Take it to MINI yourself - why let someone else drive your car?
Loaner policies vary.
For the short term, the following is a temp fix, as described by Ian Cull (GBMINI). It works!
(Shameless plug from happy customer follows )
Next, go get one of Ian's auto up circuits. They rock.

Yes, it's the motor.
The proper fix is a new motor - a short term repair is:
Hit the door panel, right below the handle you use to open the door, while at the same time clicking the window switch - this will jog the motor and get current flowing, so the motor turns.
It will then stay working for a while - maybe a day, maybe a month

This is a common problem among MINI's. Mine just went out today....just go to your local dealer and they will fix it under warrenty. Don't let them give you any BS about it. It's a well known problem among MINI owners and service techs, and IS covered under warrenty. It's the window motor incase you are wondering or didn't know.

Is there a separate warranty on the window motor? I am WAAAAYYY out of my warranty but did get my window motor replaced not too long ago. If there is separate warranty for "parts or motors" I may be in luck.
