R50/53 Burble sound on MCSa
Burble sound on MCSa
Ok. Stupid question.
I keep reading threads about the burble or popping sound on the MCS. I have an MCSa convertable. I have never hear a popping sound. What I do hear, however, is a low bass sound especially at less than 2500 rpms which I love. (I prefer listening to it rather than the radio. ) Is this what everyone is referring to?

No, there is actually a popping sound that was very pronounced on the early 05s. There was a software update that almost made that burble disappear.
It really sounds like....well....the engine is dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust.

burble is heard during lift throttle while accelerating or when coasting
on a lower gear after a down shift.
pop is really a pop! noise, you can't miss it if you heard it. ive only
been able to pop mine a few times during wot.

The burble sound is not as loud and does occur as frequently on the automatic MINIs. However, you are much more likely to hear if when using the tiptronics and shifting down while coming to a stop.
