In the 60's original version the Mini's were red, white & blue, Union jack colors but fits perfect with the U.S. remake.
I thought the scene of them jumping out of the sewer and landing nose first was funny considering they were hauling thousands of pounds of gold in the REAR,

When Napster drops his Ducati I was impressed because they had a goofy spring loaded sidestand on the early models and if you stood the bike up it would retract, the Ducati dealers had big warning signs on the bikes warning about it, they finally fixed the problem after everybody got tired of buying new mirrors and complained enough.

But I never noticed until last night that when they are trying to figure out how to move the gold and the width of the hallways, he says "The Italian job" as if he remembered how they did it in the old movie, gave it a nice touch of realism, at least no Lamborghini Miura's or XKE Jaguar's were harmed in this version and the ending is 1000 times better than the first one, London must of been a fun place in the 60's.

No. It'd be much more value for the money and likely less expensive to just advertise the MINI. It'd be kind of an obtuse way of advertising to do it the way you suggest and since most people don't buy MINI's likely a near complete waste of money. While it might be fun to think they'd be that way given their website and neat little packages we get in the mail your suggestion is just too illogical even for them.

Whether it was a MINI marketing coup or not, it was effective. One of the big reasons these cars are looked at as being so cool, and as performance cars, is that movie, even after 3 years.

As far as 2 of 3 being Coopers, did you notice that there was no damage done to the red 'S' that Charlize drove, except where it scrapes its exhaust when doing the warehouse practice run? Except for the leap out of the drain pipe, and possibly the run down the metro steps (and that hit at the bottom which they don't make a big deal of), all major damage were to the white (passenger door) and blue (sliced up driver's door and busted mirror, and the jump off the ramp while doing so) Coopers. MINI suppiled a lot of cars because they were constantly in the shop for mechanical and body work. Coopers are less expensive than 'S's. If the more $$ 'S" sustains less damage, less of them are needed.

Can you let me know where you get this info from?

All that I have read leans towards other cars being used because other auto makers after seeing the positive effects the Italian Job had for the Mini are interested in having their car in the movie. I tend to think it will all come down to a matter of money (which auto maker is willing to shell out more money). I doubt Mini will be willing to do that & I have also read that Paramount wasn't too happy with all the free publicity that Mini got after Mini's refusal to join them on a joint advertising campaign for the 1st Italian Job remake.

As for Charlize she didn't do all her own stunts. She did not shoot out from the flood piping from the subway herself.
Thats what the behind the scenes DVD said ... she did her own. Maybe they didnt include the sewer scene but I know she did the practice bit, I remember seeing it being shot

As to the coilovers, you maybe missed the point. Sure they were props but since when do MCs have coilovers?

Its a Factual Error

After watching it a million times, you can catch the continuity errors ....

When the Mini Coopers enter the subway tunnel, the white Mini is bumped by the train, yet in the following scene and the rest of the movie no body damage is visible to the rear of that Mini.

Factual Error

The crew sets off explosives so the armored truck will fall through the street into the subway tunnel. In reality, the subway tunnels underneath Hollywood Blvd are about 6 stories underground. That means the truck would have to fall through approximately 80 feet of concrete, soil, rock and more concrete to fall into the tunnel.

did you say 85" TV !!!!?
Yep, I did. I built a dedicated home theater in 1/2 of my 2-car garage (hey, everyone needs more then just one hobby). I have a front projector with an 85" 16:9 screen, 7.1 surround, 6 amps and a 15" Tempest sonotube sub tuned to 17 Hz. The room is all black and sets 7, 3 captain chairs in front and a futon on a 14" riser in the back.

I don't go out to the movies anymore, I wait for the dvd / hd-dvd.

Borrow a DVD and watch it...you owe it to yourself if you're into MINIs. It's a very period piece, quirky, but darn fun. The Mini chase scene is a true classic and in most ways better than 2003's movie. Michael Caine plays Charlie in the original.

Given the nonchalance with which Hollywood cranks out sequels, your observation may be the most accurate, especially remembering how venerated the original The Italian Job is in the UK and elsewhere. They cringe at the 2003 re-make, what will they think of yet another ......in Brazil .....possibly w/o MINIs?

Well i just got back from Canada..

And I got on the IJ ride at Paramount Wonderland and I have to say one of the best rides around. Point in case I have been to many amusement parks, and this has to be the best. The whole park is great, and you don't have to worry about the HEAT. It was very cool in Canada that day with zero humidity. I will have pics posted soon. I think the chopper that comes out and "attacks you" was not working.

Stella's red 2000 Mini was sold by the studio for a charity auction on SPEED TV, these teams would go around buying cars and run them through the Barrett-Jackson competing against each team for the highest return on their purchases, with all proceeds going to charity, I think it went for around $25K+/- ?,
