Grrrrrr this stinks

Okay rookie move by me. I hopped in my car after my friend test drove it and I forgot the ebrake was up because we were on flat ground....so I stalled out. After turning my car back on the Service Engine light came on! SOB! I Don't know what it is! I turned my car off and then back on again and it was still on!

I realllly don't want to bring it in for service but it looks like I'm going to have to go their tomorrow right after work.

In the manual it states "If the warning lamp comes on
either continuously or intermittently, this indicates a malfunction in the
emissions-related electronic systems. Although the vehicle remains operational, you should have the systems checked by your MINI Dealer at the earliest possible opportunity."

From time to time my while in my car while it's idling the exhaust is making a weird noise. Like a Put. put ..put ..put ..put ..sound. It's not the regular tone. The rpms also bounce a lil while the exhuast is put put putting. A friend mentioned maybe it's the O2 sensor.

Can the service engine soon light be the real because of this? I hope it's not because I just installed the ALTA intake about 2 weeks ago. I'm going to be insane tomorrow at work until I can bring it in and have it checked out!

Anybody have any advise? Thanks NAM!

My car stumbles a little too from time to time (put, put, put...) tap the gas and it goes away.

as for the light... try tightening the fuel filler cap, I guess that's usually what the light is for. If that doesn't work, go to the dealer. they are trained professionals...

Isn't there a seperate light for the fuel cap not being fully tightened.

I'd bet the light is for an 02 Sensor. Don't sweat over the light being on. Mine has come on three or four times now after almost a year of ownership. All four times have been because of 02 sensors . No big deal, just a PITA to have to go to the dealership to fix.

Yeah my 02 sensor acted up a few weeks after i picked up my car (service light came on of course). Dealer replaced it no problem.
The gas cap is all intergrated into that same warning light also.
