My First Ticket

Hey guys,

I think I was having a little... too much fun when a cop stopped me this morning. He was on a bike. He said: "This thing is very fast." I apologized and said that this is the best car I have ever had, that it's very responsive and nimble, that it goes through the cones faster than 911 or Corvette and it is very hard sometimes to resist. He smiled and told me that he actually couldn't pace me so wasn't able to fix my speed and marked only a minor violation for rolling stop-sign.

I can't wait to take my car to a track, the Gran Turismo 4 doesn't help.

Glad to hear you kinda got out of a hefty speeding ticket.

Be careful out there. If you have the urge to "gun it" please do so at a closed track and away from public roads.

I'm waiting on my first ticket and got mine only two weeks ago. I don't take it to the track and of course I try to obey all traffic rules but sometimes you just can't help it. Damn Mini for making it so fast and nimble!

Absolutely! I was driving normal for the entire 30 minute trip, then a couple maneuvers and the result as described above. I know I shouldn't do it, but... hey, IT happened.

DRIVE SAFE, GUYS!

I once took a right turn at a traffic light, no more than 1/2 a mile from home (it's part of my return commute). The light was green, so I wasn't even making a right on red. However, I took the corner at a speed that -I- am comfortable with. I don't even know the exact speed, I wasn't paying attention to the speedometer... but G-forces were definitely in effect.

Needless to say, there was a cop pulling up to the same intersection, coming the other way after I made the turn... he saw me take the turn, and immediately went up to the light and did a U-turn to follow me. I of course casually strolled the little distance left to my home... all the while singing a little "doo dee doo" song in my head, and saying "nothing to see here, officer!"

He followed me all the way home, saw me pull in to a space in my parking lot... and drove away.

All I could think of (besides relief) was that cops just don't understand what our MINIs are capable of - and I must have taken that corner in a manner that he wouldn't have been able to do in his cruiser, so he figured I was losing control... ummm... nope, no control lost here.

A similar story happened to me 1.5 years ago, when I just got my MINI. it was night-time and few cars in the streets. I was driving at 35MPH and made a left turn without reducing the speed (the turn was a little wider than 90 degree). A cop followed me, stopped, but didn't give me any ticket, instead he let me go suggesting driving safe.
