AOL is the biggest peice of #@^&%$ I have ever had to work with. As a computer tech for the last 25 years, I can tell you that there is nothing worst to load on your computer than AOL. That being said, have a look at Yahoo's top 5 cars, The mini made the list as #2 on the Top coupes and Top convertibles list. http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/popular/thisweek.html
and on these lists as well:

BE glad that our MINI is not on this list

Todays most "beloved cars"
MINI makes the most beloved compact car. Now this is a JD Powers survey and means virtually nothing because you have to answer the survey and who do you think answers such surveys ... duh .. the enthusiasts.
As to top 5 cars in a category, it also means nothing except for research page hits.
The whole thread seems to be much to do about nothing. The original posting said "highest demand" cars. Lets face it, we are a small group of car enthusiasts looking for a great handling, fun to drive car. The Mini is produced in very limited numbers.
Are there any cars on that list that require a 2-3 month waiting period?

What has that got to do with anything? Just because the factory cannot produce enuff cars means squat. Sounds like poor management to me
Your wait is also entirely region dependent. For more than the last year, our local dealer has had at least 50 cars on the lot. Ppl wait simply because they want to custom order. Each region is different.
Myself, I'd MUCH rather belong to an exclusive group of car owners. I don't WANT the MINI to be so commonplace as a Ford or a General Motors product...or even a Honda, for that matter. I like the looks my MINIs get. Do people really look at those other cars and make the same compliments we MINI owners hear, over and over? Highly doubtful, I'm thinking. Besides, I just read recently that the new MINI just sold its 150,000th since being reintroduced here in 2002...that number will NEVER rank us as being a top seller, especially given the numbers in which the generic carmakers crank out their vehicles. In today's Dayton [OH] Daily News ["Wheels" section, page5], is an article that lists our beloved MINI as THE "most appealing" compact car, according to J.D. Power and Associates 2006 owner satisfaction results [J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study], released recently. I'll take THAT sort of commendation, ANY DAY!
First I will qualify my following statement by saying that my MINI is by far the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever owned. I love it. But....
I saw one of the new Civic SI's on the street yesterday, a blue color I hadn't seen before and it looked marvelous! If I wasn't firmly in the MINI fold at the moment I'd be heading for Honda again.

Apparently I didn't make my point very well. The point I attempted to make is, how many people would be willing to wait 2-3 months after ordering a car on the list?

Could be poor management but if supply is greater than demand per vehicle profit will be higher. BMW could certainly afford to increase capacity in Oxford, or even build a second plant. My guess is they have studied the financials very well.

Could be. I was relying on information posted on this website (production support group week**) and my personal experience (there were no Minis for sale on the lot.) Maybe the people posting here are only enthusiasts who want to custom order even though vehicles are sitting on the lot. Anyway, if that is the case, my opinion has been skewed by reading this website and I apologize.

I was reading a recent Auto issue of Consumer Reports and they actually had the MINI listed as a CR Best Buy! In terms of what you get for what you pay for. As well as safety, handling, resale value, etc. I wish I could show the report, but just got to any Barnes and Noble and check the Auto issue of CR. If MINI is recommended as a car to buy in CR, then we don't need to worry about how well the MINI is doing.
