R50/53 Pry it from my cold dead fingers...
i plan on keeping my 03' MC until 2013, which is 1 year after i finish paying it off, at which point I will order my 2014 JCW MCS
since i bought my 03' used, it technically is my MINI, but it isn't MY personal MINI

The MINI is a fantastic car! but....how do you know there will not be something out in 15 years that could out perform the mini in every aspect? and still be in the same price range catigory? As time goes on, cars get better as a "whole" More advancements in technology, things that were pricey options become standard, better performing engines that last longer, and so on.
Yes there are classic cars and we love them, (and i will most likely get flamed for this
) but i dont know if i consider the new MINI a classic (atleast not yet), even though it is an absolutely awesome car. There are alot of cars that are awesome, but not all of them are legands and classics. The orginal mini to me is a classic without a doubt as it was truely ahead of its time and very inventive in alot of ways. I also think its in the top 5 most sold cars in the world. (i believe)
So will i keep this MINI forever? most likely not.
Will i get a new MINI when the time comes? Depends on what else is out there on the market.
Will i keep my MINI for a long time, and enjoy it? YES!!!

Who else will do the same with your Mini?

My Cooper will be interred with me...hell, it's the only coffin that would fit me anyway, and besides, then my family won't have to buy one.

I will grant you the part about maybe keep it as a third car, Sunday car, etc. but the hard facts of life are that "things change". MINIs aren't the "first" marque with hard core "lovers or devotees". And it won't be the last.
In 1971 I truly thought I would keep my 240Z "forever". But you "don't know what you don't know" ... another way of saying "sheet happens" Sometimes you got to make hard decisions and believe me, cars will always lose as depreciating assets.Just some examples ... You don't know if:
- you need the money for something more important (medical bills, house payments, you lose your job, someone dies) ... you just dont know
- you move and don't have the room for a third car or get divorced and live in an apt with NO parking
That is my point and why I would never again say I'll never sell this car. Its just not realistic. Never say never. You got to experience life events to understand this because in the end ... its just a car. Its not a human being, its not your spouse, its not your children, and GOD forbid you don't need to sell it to get braces for your kids or to put a roof over your head or any of the other unfortunate circumstances of life.

Your car inspires me!
I think some of you have looked a little too far into the title of this thread. Have you never heard of someone keeping a car for so long? I see it a lot around here, people buying old muscle cars when they are young, modifying them, and keeping them forever. Sure, they could sell them for profit at some point, or even trade them in for the 15 years newer ride, but when you love a car, you love a car. It's that simple.
Barring someone else totalling BLISS, I'll have him forever.

Our '04 Cooper was going to with us forever (even down to 5,000 mile oil changes) and then wound up buying an '07 supercharged S
So much for being consistant

Now that it can never be replaced, like-for-like, it will be with us (barring the unforeseen) for ever and ever and ever
