R50/53 Pry it from my cold dead fingers...
True...it might be my kid's tomorrow if...let's not go there
Then again, I gave my wife specific instructions that if my world ended, the Mini would be moth-balled until they are at least 25 and give the keys to the "responsible motorhead"

id like to consider myself someone who will keep it forever, but i leave for college in a year and a half, and one of the bonuses of the mini going in buying it was that yes id have to shell out a lot of cash now for it, but when it came time for college and im desperate for cash, i could sell the mini and make most of my $$'s back. so unfortunately ill probably be financially forced to, but i do vow this, when i do sell it im going to make sure its to someone who respects a fine car, and hopefully someone i know pretty well, but at worst someone who would let me go and visit harley quinn, so owner forever id like to be but probably wont, but i do intend to keep in touch with my mini forever, and if im lucky after ive hopefully not become homeless but find myself succesful, go and repurchase the car

I look at it this way. My wife DOES talk about keeping it "forever". What I really question is the cost of maintenaince as its asset value goes down. In warranty, no issue. But what happens when its 8 years old with all the problems people keep complaining about on the forums.
As in all cars, there comes a time when the cost of maintenaince isn't worth the value of the car. I exclude from that comment some cars like people do keep 911s ... well forever. I think I read 95% of all Porsches ever made are still registered. I am sure the same is true of most of the top-end Vettes

Seriously, just be religious about your maintance...should last you at least several 100k before needing a rebuild...unless you've been modding then all bets are off...
a MINI life for me
I'm planning on running mine to the ground before even thinking about giving it up.
And even if that happened, I couldnt stand driving anything but a MINI now,
so I'd just have to get another!
Actually I plan on becoming filthy rich and owning an entire fleet of
minis and MINIS.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first MINIs in the area. I had quite a time, and will never forget it. I had been wanting a British car for decades, since the Triumph and love affair with various BL products of my youth. My 02 MINI filled me with pride, I still remember the construction crew I passed that first day or two, one of the guys grabbed the other's arm and pointed as I went past. It was a glorious time, I couldn't give enough of the girls at work rides, the few other MINI's I would see on the road would flash or wave, (and no snobbery between S and standard Coopers, either), it was all so wonderful, I will never forget it. The moment I had the car, I felt, this is it, I will own a MINI the rest of my life, in whatever the current configuration is. I replaced my 02 in 05, because of problems with the CPU. I did not like most of the changes, (altho I accepted them), I still very much enjoy this car. But the R56 is a disaster to me. Given that I do not want to own such a complicated car out of warranty, "forever..." is a genuine problem for me, and I am very disappointed...
Barring any major mechanical problems, I plan on keeping my baby for a long time to come. My son has hinted that I "could" leave him the mini in my will.
I told him I didn't intend on checking out anytime too soon and for him to buy his own Mini!!

I'm 23 and this is my 9th car since I have been driving (all but the first 79 Chevy truck were bought by me). I knew the moment I drove off the lot with BLISS that this was the last car I would buy for a loooooooooong time. I plan on owning BLISS forever and hope to constantly add/change it through the years. When I do buy another car, it will be so that I can make BLISS more of a dedicated track car and have a newer more reliable daily driver. *note that BLISS is 3 weeks old, so newer means no time soon*

I am a serial car buyer... I am always having my head turned by the newest, hipest, flashyest BMW/MINI out there (I now own a 650Cic that was very close to being Cayman instead) and my head will again be turned by another... but not until my wallet cools (I hope
).For those of you embarking on your automotive journey of life, you have my best wishes for nothing but blue sky and open winding road... for those of us a little further along in our automotive life... I wish upon you the same but with all the time in the world to enjoy them.

Now that is truly shocking to me! I am very disappointed to read this, Bluegarvis! I always try, if it's possible, to flash the hi-beams, wave, or give thumbs-up, when I see other MINIs out there.

Pearl isn't leaving me ever. She may have her rear seats re installed around 300k miles and she may be my weekend car after 500k and she has some siblings and she may have her engine revamped a few times, but she isn't leaving me, and you will NOT see me leave her esp. for an R56. Chows perhaps you did realize the signifcance of a MINI is just the same as what a 911 is to others.
