LoJack Issues

Anyone else had LoJack issues?

I was DRIVING my car on the way to Fort Bragg
when my BF and I got a call at the same time
saying my car may have been stolen! Apparently
I was stealing my own car...

When I got back home a few days later, I called LoJack.
They said it is most likely a battery problem, that I need
new ones. But Ive only had it for 2 months and the
'low battery' ligt isnt on. :impatient

So I'll be taking it to Radioshack today to check the batteries.
If theyre good, Im going to have serious issues with the
LoJack people- I dont like speding money on something
that doesnt work and the fact that my car could be stolen
w/o me knowing it despite the LoJack. roar.

You know where your LoJack unit is? Usually that's a LoJack nono.

I've got LoJack in two vehicles, but I don't have any keychain device for either one. These are in 2002 models, so keychain device must be new. One I know where it's located, but I'm not telling.

The keychain thingie isn't lojack. The keychain thingie is the additional $300 or so fee so you wave that little thing near the car and they know its you and not someone else

You can get lojack without that extra "feature" since that unit draws power from the car battery.

I would bet they are correct. Just because your keychain thingies doesnt say low battery means nothing ... it could be dead. I would replace the battery first.

NO, your getting confused.

Lojack is a little black box hidden somewhere they draws power from your car battery (a tiny bit). It only become active if you call them and tell the car is stolen.

You have bought the additional thing, the early recovery system. You have a key pass. Everytime your near the car, the key pass contacts the real lojack box and says all is OK. If the car starts to move and the box doesnt get the signal, then it sends a report that the car is stolen (you notified depending upon how you set it up).

This is no different, for example, than new Vettes dont actually need a key to start the car, you just get near to it with the key and it will start.

So, it has to be a dead battery in your key pass, probably one of those little button batteries. They dont last forever. Just open the thing up with a tiny screwdriver and pop in a new batter and I bet it works

good luck

Here's the deal, if you have a LoJack Early Warning you'll have the lil black box on your key ring w/ a lil red light that may or many not tell you when you need to replace the lithium battrey (CR2032) . Mine went nuts about 4 mos. after I replace my first battrey, so I changed it again & no worries since. LoJack states you should change out the battery every 6 mos. It's a real drag if you park your car, walk to where you need to get & have your cell ring with that message. I've had a car taken & it's not a good feeling :impatient

Thanks.
Sounds like its a battery issue with most people who experience this
problem. I hope that's all mine is too. I'm going to get it checked out
right after work.

But, if you get the message, you can immediately call 911 and they can start tracking the location of your car and hopefully, get it back to you with minimal damage. This sounds like an improvement to the LoJack service. (And the inconvenience of replacing batteries every 6 months may be a small price to pay if you are concerned about your car being stolen.)

Not quite, first LoJack calls you at the two phone numbers you provide them then they'll E-mail you, this is just a heads-up. You then need to check the wereabouts of your car, if it's gone you now need to call the Popo & get it reported, then you call LoJack with the report number, then LoJack will activate your transponder and if your local Popo have a car with a locator in it out on patrol you just might get it back with little or no damage, but your still going to feel badly violated.

Don't know what to think about that, your still getting calls from LoJack telling you your car is on the move?
