Oh, so YOU were the guy in this video, then....

This may be true. I didn't realize I was doing 55 in a 35 during my test drive. Honestly! I popped up over a hill and there sat the cop. I slammed on the brakes but my MA said, "Don't worry about it." Maybe they give the cops a great deal on cars.

Thanks for the laughs everyone. (not that it is funny to speed or drive dangerously. It is just funny when people get caught.)

So far sprbxr has it at 224 with Coubs coming in a close second with 257. Althought Coubs does get bonus points for the size of the fine being higher than his mileage.

First ticket, less than 500 miles on the MINI.
Driving for the first time on the Highway, forgot the car came with a speedo!

Just last week. My first moving violation in 13 years and it's not even a good story - 44 in a 30 zone.

63 in a 50 the second day I owned the car.

Had no idea I was going that fast.

My MINI should arrive at the dealership in about 2 weeks, so I don't have it yet.

Last night I dreamt I was driving it and got pulled over for a ticket.

Does that count?

6 mos. in, coasting down a big hill I get nailed for 53 in a 35. Mind you the road is 4 lanes and has wide shoulders.

He asked me if I wanted him to calibrate the radar gun. I said "Why bother?" and he laughed.

The cop wrote me for 44 which is a fine only ticket.

Dodged a Bullet

The first ticket would be my husband's. We just got the judge's decision today for the wreckless driving charge he got while driving through VA on the way to MOTD. Reduced to a speeding violation and $131.00 fine. We are truly grateful for this.

Anybody have any links to RADAR DETECTORS?

I don't want to spend to much. Something around $100 or less?

Anybody know if there legal or not in Colorado?

They are legal in every state except VA (and DC).

$100 will get you crap (real crap, not JCW crap). Go google Valentine and Escort. If your going to be a bear, be a grizzly

Ocala? Wow I need to drive down there. I'm in Ocala several times a year on business, always fly into Orlando and take the rent-a-wreck 75 miles to horse country. The Mini would be a bit more fun.

2500 miles so far and nothing yet (touch wood), but I have had several scares with one cop lighting up behind me only to go after someone else. Considering my usual cruising speed of 85-90 and my car's arrest-me-red color, pretty amazing all in all.

I STRONGLY agree that the cost of a Valentine One will more than pay for itself the first time you need it. This is the only detector that tells you WHERE the smokey is (in front, to the side, behind you) - with so much mobile radar happening these days that's critical. For example, being lit up from behind you just might not want to slam on the brakes but perhaps do some engine breaking, hoping that your detector got some scatter and you were not definately painted yet. If the radar is way out front, that is less of an issue. Also, this detector does a nice job of letting you know when you are getting junk signals from automatic doors at shopping centers.

I am not trying to do an advert for Valentine (they are not perfect - they mailed me a DOA detector when I first ordered but were nice about fixing it) but I appreciate things that are so technically superior that there is just no darn choice. They also have a program for you to return your detector for technology upgrades as their systems improve.

Site is something like www.valentine1.com Check it out.

Bill

ps - OK, now we have discussion of people getting caught at 125 mph and radar detector strategies... I am a little afraid we are skating close to a lock down...

Speeding tickets- one of the main reasons I bought a Cooper over an S. Not that the Cooper can't go over 55, just you have more time to contemplate the consequences. No tickets so far in the MINI. Had PLENTY of tickets in my previous car (BMW 325i 5sp convertible).

As they say, money doesn't grow on trees.

Within an hour

I bought mine used, however, I got a ticket in the first hour of owning it! The car had 14k miles on it, but only 50 or so driven by me. I was utterly depressed and wasn't even speeding. Was just following my mom, who also was not speeding. I fought the ticket and won, but wow was it rough to get a ticket within an hour of getting a car.

one doozy :$305 on a posted 65 mph highway........you do the math. Statie used Lidar for which I am convinced is undefendable with a radar detector ANY detector .....well maybe a jammer. I was doing what he said I was doing. He threatened permanent loss of license and 6 months in jail (driving to endanger) doesn't matter a hoot that the traffic was doing 85 , I was going faster. He told me he had flagged my license # in the laptop in his cruiser and if I got another ticket he'ld know it and come to my house and arrest me on the threatened charges. I paid the ticket that day, and I've been a very different driver ever since. His comment as he walked away and happened to see the passport 8500 down in the passenger seat foot well: "so did that work?" no. "HAVE A NICE DAY!" Lol
