i got one last summer for a 'right on red while a pedestrian present'
the judge ruled that since the bicyclist still was astride his vehicle that
he should be treated as a motor vehicle and the ticket went away.

I didn't get the ticket, my husband did. I was following him and we had been warned to watch our speeds- so we were. But Mr. Officer decided that 37 in a 35 was "excessive speed" and ticketed him and told him he was lucky he was not ticketing his wife too. Turns out "excessive speed" was anything under 5 mph over! Ticket?? Cost us $96. I believe we had about 3k miles on the car.

Out on a run earlier this year, our leader got pulled over for going too slow. We were doing the speed limit on a levee road. Go figure. Anyways, while we waited, we all put our tow-hook front plates on while he wasn't looking!

Sleazy cops & system!

Only ticket(s) to date:

Had my front plate off - as the front aero-kit had JUST been replaced (road-debris damage). The technician who did the install was warry of drilling the kit without my sayso - so it wasn't done when I came to pick up the car. And frankly I appreciated the consideration.

At any rate...
I'm driving home from the shop - 40 in a 40 zone - cruise control set SPOT ON! (stock wheels tires etc.). Laser cop steps out in front of me & signals me over the the curb (residential area). Cop #2 walks over to the car, asks for licence, ownership & insurance... Then after running me through the computer he comes back & tells me I was doing 50 in the 40 zone and that he's going to give me a ticket for said infraction. Cop #2 then asks why my front plate is not on. I tell him why, show him the service receipt with that day's date & description of work done. Despite this he tells me he's also going to ticket me for not having a front plate. ...Then, acts all budy-budy... like he's my freind... Tells me to "fight it" and I'll get off... "just take photos of the car with plate installed, and show a receipt for work performed & you'll be OK".

So, I hire an ex-police officer to fight both tickets. He surmises (and I agree) that I was likely pulled over because the officer working the laser-radar saw that I did not have a front plate. Says it likely had NADA to do with my speed, furthermore that the speeding was added on to ensure a conviction.

Court:
In court the plate charge is dismissed without hesitation. However I still got hung with the B.S. speeding conviction - fine reduced/no points applied.

Apparently there is only so much which can be argued re: laser-radar / probability of malfunction. I suppose the judge's perspective is also key... As my ex-cop representative said it: The fact that I was 'up' for two violations meant that I'd be seen as "fortunate" to have got off of one conviction, so the other was definately going to stick - even if it was false.

THIS is a classic example of why cops/the system get a bad raps, and why even when one's doing no wrong it can be un-nerving to see a police car pull onto the road behind & travel the direction you're going.

Life isn't neccessarily equitable or fair.

I can assure you that rate is not for the entire state of Ohio. Mine is $130 for doing 68 in a 55.

At 15-20 mph pull e-brake, turn wheel in desired direction of turn and put clutch in. Rear end will snap around and you'll be facing the direction you came from. Practice it in an empty parking lot before attempting it on the street, because if you're going to fast you'll lose control and probably hit something, and if you're going too slow then you won't complete the turn and will end up in a potential dangerous position...

I don't condone any of this

I must say that the police officer ticketing me was very unsympathetic and didn't really seem to think that my perfectly Zaino'd BRG paint deserved special treatment. The judge in the courthouse was even worse.

If you're so paranoid about getting a ding or scratch, then park in a less populated spot.

LOL... jimz68 & hudmg0kw... you do realize that Yucca Patrol was kidding, right? He was trolling! If the 3 "poke your tongue out" smileys at the end didn't give that away, the addition of the "expectant mothers parking space" on top of the two handicapped spaces should have made it all the more obvious! ...Especially since a MINI isn't going to consume 3 actual parking spaces no matter HOW you park it (not to mention that handicapped spaces are extra wide!). Hehe... you guys have been had. Laugh it up.

To Yucca - well written... I laughed pretty hard when I saw that (yes, old thread, but I just read through it tonight for the first time)... I wasn't going to say anything until I saw the couple of upset responses.

Nah, that's nothing. You didn't resort to a direct personal attack, and asking someone what makes them so special hardly qualifies... not to mention the word filter blocked out your curse anyway. It takes a lot more than that to get yourself into hot water here.

Try $175 for 78 in a 55....in a Cooper! Fortunately for me, I was able to gear down from 94 before he clocked me...but I still got nailed...just not jailed!

And then there was the 75 in a 65...uphill in that nasty ole Cooper again. It was July 4 weekend, in MD, on the way back from MME, but the trooper took pity on me as I was trying to catch up with the group in front...only gave me a warning. :impatient

So far, so good with the S...but, Coopers Rule!

So i got nailed for speeding doing 54 MPH on a 40 MPH zone in Bull Valley, IL, if anyone here is from that area or anyone driving through Bull Valley in the future, dont speed there, its a small town and my GF said that the cops there make a living by giving speeding tickets.

Havent gotten a ticket YET after 1 month in my MINI, but I have been watching my speed. I got a ticket earlier this summer while driving my sister's Volvo 850 in Nebraska, 95 in a 75. I tried sending letters to the judge explaining that I was going slower(exactly 20 over seemed a little too convenient) but they just ignored them and then when I called the court to resolve the issue they told me that my home state, PA, was going to suspend my license because my payment was late. So I made the payment, called PennDOT and they told me that they wouldn't even put the ticket on my record, let alone suspend my license!

But I have a real problem with the way some states ticket out-of-state drivers and then give them no way to contest the ticket (short of travelling 1500 miles to attend court). At least PA doesn't take Nebraska tickets too seriously. Either way, I've been trying to be good in my MINI because I can't afford to shell out a couple hundred dollars every few months. At least I wasn't pulled over earlier in the day though... I was testing the top speed of the Volvo I won't say how fast I got it up to though...
