R50/53 CVT and triptronic
#2
>>I have neer used the triptronic feature on my car . Can anyone help me out in what it does and how to use it??
It is actually pretty simple....
In D - standard auto transmission, shifts smoothly not really jerky motions.
move shift to right, on the speedo it will light up "SD" this is the sport mod. Do not move the shifter forward or back and drive. The transmission now shifts at a higher rpm and holds the transmission in a gear a little longer.
When in SD move the shifter forward or back and it will light up the gear number you are in. Now you can upshift or downshift. Watch the the tach and pull the shifter back when you get close to red line (or when ever you feel like it.)
That's it.....
Also, you get teh CVT pedals.....they are cool

You can switch between the stetronic and normal automatic by putting the shifter into D and then pushing to the right. On the speedo it will show SD then you can shift the car like a manual by pulling it down to upshift or pushing it up to downshift If you have driven a manual transmission it will take some getting used to and you will have to watch the tac more than listening to the engine. The RPM's will jump up very fast if you are in the wrong gear.

Next time you want to enter a highway, try this:
From a stop, move the shifter into SD (to the right). Accelerate up to 30 mph, then pull the shifter down. You'll probably be in 3rd. Now watch the tach and notice how the car performs as you go from 3000, 4000, 5000.....and then will shift for you when it hits 6000 RPMs.
At highway speeds (60-70), you can toggle back and forth between 5th and 6th "gears". This is good to practice so you know how to downshift when you want to pass a car quickly.
I have found that downshifting to a complete stop is too jerky. What I do if I'm in Step mode and come to a red light is to move the shifter back into normal drive and coast to the stop, letting the engine braking feature do its thing smoothly.
