R50/53 Any trouble-free '06 MCS's out there???
My 06 has been great. I had a super small concern with the door grab handles inside creaked when pulling the doors closed, but the dealer fixed it in no time but re-torquring the screws. now my baby is perfect!!!!
I've got a Feburary build, took delivery in April. Warmed it up with a 500 mile trip home from the dealer down the Oregon coast. 1000+ mile trip to the bay and back (many circles while there). Rolls like a dream.
Two months and 2000 miles on the OD. I have the idling-clutch out-rattle thingy ( https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ead.php?t=8949 ), but only when cold.
Other than that the only problem is the obsessive urge to wash it when I get back from each and every litttle jaunt.
Oh, wait, that's not a problem. Sweet sweet MINI.

5k, 3mo, 06, MCS... got some problems, not huge issues though:
Clutch throwout bearing or flywheel issue: Ticking/tapping noise at idle with clutch out and an occasional metalic screech when starting in 1st under load (eg, hill start) split second sound like a metal chair sliding on a concrete floor, or as it was aptly described here somewhere, "Orrttt."
Gas cap lock doesn't work.
Still the most fun car to drive though

'06 MCS purchased in Nov '05, 5,500 miles and absolutely trouble free.
I was also concerned with the number of problems being reported here and I suspect most of them may be related to mods since MINI is a pretty complex car electronically and many of the systems are inter-related. Any changes will affect multiple functions so a mod could show up as a malfunction in a totally unrelated place.
...I'm just sayin'

06'JCW modded out in the first week home. Age:Just turned 1 month old!
No problems, except it creaks and rattles. But I think mini's are notorious for that. Knowing that it would creak and rattle...I still chose to buy my mini. I haven't regretted it...nor do I think I ever will no matter how much noise it makes on the inside (sshhh, my lil chili peppa shouldn't hear this
). My Lexus, which is my second vehicle, makes no noise inside or out....so I have 2 completely opposite cars to complement me. All is cool
Just go out and get your mini! There isn't much to think about. The way the mini drives and handles, its all worth it

Love my 06 MCS
Nearly two months and about 1500 miles and no problems whatsoever. I'm pleasantly surprised as I almost expected something to pop up - but so far it's been as solid as any Japanese appliance I've owned in the past.
No problems except 1
October 05 build JCW Checkmate got 12-27-05. I replaced the windshield at 2000 miles with PPG glass no other problems . Now have 5002 miles in 6 months ownership no other problems.
Just completed a round trip from SoCal to Vegas in 105 degree heat. No problems and my 06 DS/B MCS ran cool as a cucumber. I averaged 28 mpg including bumper to bumper traffic leaving SoCal. Three months of ownership and 3K worth of wonderful motoring.
Unlike everyone else who has posted, I have had serious problems with my 06 MCS. People won't leave me alone until they get to ride in it. Worse yet, some actually want to drive it.
Other than that, at 3600 miles, it's trouble free and, by far, the funnest car I've ever owned.

Ordered Feb 06 picked up March, 2k miles, MCS SB/S Checkmate non mechanical issues....beltline molding had to be replaced on passenger side of car from pass door to boot. The molding was not sealing properly. The second issue has me concerned...driver side windshield washer jet leaked causing discolorization in the U shaped hood decal. The kicker....the dealer installed the clearbra so now everything has to come off the hood...vinyl decal and clearbra. Sure hope the dealers body shop knows what they are doing!

The discoloration is from Cosmoline (rust-proofing stuff the car is coated with before making the trip across the pond) hanging around in the nooks of the washer jets. When mixed with the fluid, it makes a nasty solution. Check around the washer jet on your boot as well.
