R50/53 Question about intake duct
Question about intake duct
My last service at Tom Bush MINI, they gave me the plastic intake duct that had been broken and re-glued (probably by the guy that put in my Alta CAI). They advised they didn't have the part in stock. What is its' purpose and is it a hassle to replace? I will find a different mechanic. Thanks. Nick
Ummm, I'm guessing your talkinig about the RAM air intake on the front? That plastic tube routes into the buttom of your stock filter box and allows air to get pushed into the buttom of the intake.
Ie: This opening:

And the tube goes into the buttom of the intake box, IE: this opening. Your stock filter sits on that "ridge:"

And the HAI proves you don't need that tube for certain applications, usually either a HAI or a CAI (since it just adds a little more air to the air being gathered at the base of the windscreen.) I modified mine to give a little more access and a smoother flow for the air.

I will make some photos of my mod. I removed the "stuff" hanging off the tube going from the front of the engine bay to the bottom of the air intake box. It's apparently for noise reduction and collection of moisture/water in the intake. I removed it and rewrapped the tube with CF wrap. Not the most attractive mod, but it cleans up the tube and works.
