R50/53 Manual or Auto AC?
I have the automatic climate control (ACC) because it came as a part of the premium package that I got because I wanted a sunroof.
You can't compare features such as ACC across brands. My Monte Carlo had cruise control and it worked a hell of a lot more quickly and accurately than the CC in Obie. So, ACCs more than most likely differ between brands, as well.
I find Obie's ACC to be perfect. I like manual stuff, too, but this works so well I am glad it came with the package. I never use the manual settings anymore. I have found that best way to use the ACC is to hit AUTO, set your desired temp (mine is 68 degrees, and you only have to do it once), and then turn on the recirculation button (directly underneath). This allows the interior to cool down much quicker because the system is recycling the already chilled air from the interior. Once you feel cool, turn off the recirculation, and then fresh air will be drawn in from the outside.
Once you are in this mode, the fan will slow down and speed up automatically to keep the interior temp where you want it. It sounds like a lot to read all this, but it's actually very simple, and works very well.

If you want to manually control the recirculation, it's easy to do as you pointed out, but if you leave it in "auto", it'll use recirc when the temperature is a lot different from the setpoint, then go to fresh air as the temp gets closer to the setpoint. The only time I hit recirc is when something stinks (like a sewage plant, chicken house, etc.)

i have auto climate control in my mcs but i dont think its worth the $300.
If you tihnk about it, you have all the functionality in the manual. Youre basically paying for an auto button and digital thermostat.
