Question About Mileage

Hi all.

I'm the proud owner of a new DS/B MCS (hope I did that right) and I couldn't be happier. Took delivery about six weeks ago and have never enjoyed driving like this!

My mileage has been right around 22 and I'm wondering if this might improve over the coming months. I've been taking it easy as I'm just about up to the 1250 mile break-in period, so 22 mpg seems a little low based on the ratings.

Thanks! (Love this BB BTW).

That is about what I have averaged in the past 3.5 years, although I do get much better mileage on long highway trips.

Well, I get between 18-22 with the a/c on. I have a hot air intake on it though. I have noticed that if I put on the stock intake, I go up to 24. But that was in the winter so there was colder air. You might go up a little after break in. Your car is still ajusting to your driving style.

What kind of driving do you do?

I have a 3 month old HB/B MCS and I do about 50/50 city/highway. I have averaged 27-28 mpg on every tank so far. But I tend to not use the AC much, I prefer windows down (and sunroof open) motoring.

Really depends on your driving conditions - are you city driving, stop and go, highway? I get a bit over 29 MPG calculated and 30.5 OBC with my '06 MCS - this is almost all highway driving at 75 mph. You should see some improvement in your mileage. I have around 3800 miles on mine and it has been gradually creeping up (or else the warmer weather and different gas mixtures have had an effect). I got mine on 2/27/06. I seldom use the AC as I love the sunroof open and the windows down.

I averaged (per OBC) about 27-28 taking it easy 60% of the time and having fun 40% the rest of the time for about the first 7K miles.

I'm now at about 8K (I've had my MCS for 8 months) and for the last 1K miles I've been averaging around 30-31 (again, per OBC).

I think I'll be having fun on my next tank just to see what I get now. Pre-7K miles when I had fun on a tank, I ended up around 25 (per OBC).

When I calculate it out instead of using the OBC it usually comes out to be a couple MPG less. I think the OBC looks at the last 30 miles driven or something like that to caculate it's number, but I'm not 100% sure.

Regardless, a number of people have noticed a MPG increase at 7K miles. But I would say 22 on a new MCS is low - ESPECIALLY if you're following the break-in guidelines.

Oh yeah, my only mod is an ALTA CAI.
