Yeah, you know I have that very sound too. Funny thing though, it only occurs whenever my husband is sitting there.

This link may help your sunroof squeak!

[quote=Jayde]My sunroof squeeks when it opens...

Worked great on my 03 MC. Then I had the dealer adjust it further (he is 120 miles away)...Now I have an 04 MCS and the sunroof is quiet so far.

Harmonic Balancer Problems?

I have heard that the clicking sound made going hard in 1st and 2nd is due to the harmonic balancer not working right, anyone familiar with this phenomenon? I have read several references to aftermarket exhaust noises, Alta told me is was the aluminum heat shield?

02' MCS, lots of Alta products, AFE cold air.

The passenger side window often won't roll down for "comfort" opening from the key. However it usually works after I start the engine. Probably the cheap BMW battery getting ready to die.

How about no ledge on the side of the roof/top of door, so when it rains, you get a wet seat. Seems like a bad design.

1. Driver door squeeks when opening/closing. I tried a small amount of WD-40 - no help.
2. Occasional, but very infrequent, dash rattle.
3. Soft clear coat (or toxic birds around here.)

None of these has been anoying enough for me to take the car 100 miles to the nearest dealer. I'll have them addressed when it goes in for its first checkup at 10K.

•Occasionally passenger window doesn't got down when using key fob.
•Streaks on forward 1/4 of each window from being rolled up from time to time.
•Occasional dash rattle
•Clutch squeal starting from a dead stop

Definitely use something more robust than WD-40 for door hinges. Spray white lithium grease, for example. WD-40 is for breaking loose things that are stuck.

I tightened the passenger downtube which was loose for the last few thousand and was driving me nuts.

I've had good success with White Lithium grease

At lowes or other hardware stores.
10 oz for $4.29
For Heavy Duty Applications
o Sprays on wet, then sets up as a water and corrosion resistant Teflon® grease.
o Enhanced with Teflon® fluoropolymer for better water resistance, maximum lubricity, and higher temperature stability.
o Unlike lower technology products which use a straight Lithium 12-Hydroxystearate grease, DuPont™ White Lithium is formulated with a performance grade, Lithium Complex Grease.
o Will not run, melt, wash off, freeze or break down under high speeds, extreme heat, or heavy loads.
o Contains no chlorinated solvents including Perchlorethylene.
o Use on open lubes points and high load applications
o Uses include gears & shafts, machinery, roller conveyors, lifting mechanisms, overhead garage doors, bearings, pivots, linkages, cables, fan motors, slides, couplings, automotive hinges, latches, springs & coils.

How exactly did you do this? (we're newbies and are having the same problem). You can PM me if you don't want to hijack this thread. Thanks!

I realize that I'm replying to an almost 1/2 year old post, but that's exactly what I did when I complained about my speaker rattle (and it was even track 6! )

I left the CD with them, and they made a note of it on the work order. Sure enough, it wasn't a normal rattle, and the speaker was actually blown!

Ooh. It could be the window motor is getting ready to fail. Is yours an '04 or earlier? I think the problem was sorted for '05+.

My MINI would do that very occasionally for about the first year I owned it, and then one day, the window just didn't want to budge without a good door-wacking.

Brought it in to the dealer, and they replaced *both* window actuator motors under warranty, even though it was only the one having issues!

---

As for nagging issues, really the only thing I have is the occasional squeak or rattle that I eventually chase down and quiet. Especially in the colder months.

No worries. Whip out your Torx screwdrivers or Torx socket set and a socket wrench. Loosen the bolts holding the tube. There is 2 on each tube near the top. Then move the tube up and down a tad. Then reinstall it. Tighten down tight. But don't go nuts on the bolt, its all plastic bits after all.

We did the exact same thing about ours. They replaced both motors under warranty. We still have the OEM battery. Now the only annoying goof-up in the car is the rear seat belt retractors don't retract any more. Don't leave them fastened all the time and they won't get like that.

I get the same thing. Same side. I'm going to add it to my oil change list. I've got 44,000 miles so I might as well get it done.

Also, the socket for the wheel arch bulb (rear passenger) rusted and the light doesn't work.

It would be a great help if everyone would include the age of their MINIs so that it is easier to figure out the age of the problems and what has been fixed or modified.

I have a 2006 MCS (November 2005 build). So far no problems, nagging little ones, or otherwise.

My one little nagging problem was solved my purchasing a second sun visor to match the one over the drivers' door, and fitted it to the passenger side, replacing the passenger grab handle.

Is a recurring nose one that grows back after you cut it off?

Old thread, but what the hey...

Super dusty brake pads really bug me.

Sometimes backing out the driveway during the morning my brakes make a "clunk" sound, never to be heard again.

This apart from having the other typical "quirks": start-up stumble, cracked windshield, busted motor mount, noisy sunroof, and others I can't think of right now.

You know, most threads I read about little problems with the MINI includes several "it's normal for the MINI" posts. It speaks volumes about this great little car when most everybody puts up with these little quirks because they enjoy every other aspect of the car. I for one would have gotten rid of any other car I have owned if I had similar issues. Getting rid of my MINI? No way in h@ll! I love this little bugger!
