They can put me down for one!

Oh well, I guess I should have read the whole thread before posting my request at Bentley today.
Anyway it's good news that we will be getting update. I'm just glad that I didn't bite the bullet, as I nearly did, and get the '02-'04.

Due to have an updated manual by May 1st of this year according to the last posting given. So, anyone would like to place your Ideas of what should be covered you better move to Bentley webpage fast.

Excellent!

I want an updated Bentley Manual as well. I was going to get the 02-04 manual, but after hearing of the several changes for the 05 and 06 models, I couldn't get myself to buying one. I have an 05 and it would be very helpful to have a Bentley manual that covers my year.

Bentley manual pricing?

I noticed that they are taking pre-orders for the updated manual on the Bentley site. Just a quick question for those that have owned previous manuals: isn't $120 kinda pricey??

I have to say it's been a long time since I've bought a shop manual (mid-80's), but that's just more than I thought it would be...

Thats what I thought at first (I've had the haynes manuals for other cars those are rarely more than $20)

But the Bentley Manuals go far above and beyond that. And witht eh current one that has been out they were 100 about a year ago, and as far back as last summer I'd been seeing them for 75 and 50 and would have personally jumped at some of the deals if it included the 05 model year.

List price on the old one (2002-04) is $99.95
List price on the new one (2002-06) is $119.95

Amazon has the 2002-04 book for ~$60
So I imagine when the new version comes out and is available at other resellers it will be cheaper.

I have both the Haynes and Bentley and I think it is worthwhile to own both. The Bentley has a greater amount of sheer information (it seems to be mostly a translation of the BMW service CD-ROM into book form), but I think the Haynes is better written (and in particular the electrical diagrams are much more usable).

Can anyone who has gotten the new version comment on what information is included about the MCSa? Is there good detail on the auto transmission?

Mine arrived today...

Regarding the auto transmission...

The chapter regarding the auto (Chapter 2) has been updated to support the Agitronic transmission of the MCSa. From the chapter intro:

This section covers external automatic transmission service, including removal and installation of the transmission unit. Internal transmission repair is not covered.

...

Automatic trnamission fluid cooler removal and installation is covered in section 170 Radiator and Cooling System.

Here are the major sections of the chapter:

Transmission Fluid Service
Transmission Service
Back-up light switch, locating
Drive axle seals, replacing
Gear position switch, replacing
Input shaft seal, replacing
Transmission control module (EGS), replacing
Vehicle Speed Sensors
Transmission Removal and Installation (covers both tranny and torque converter)

Does that help?

-Ed
