disregarding the poorly structured nature of that sentence, i call BS on the death threats. i don't think there's anyone passionate enough about their mini to threaten to kill someone. i suspect it was more like "if i knew what you were saying on tape i wouldn't have stopped when you crossed the road" type comment. still juvenile, but far from a death threat.

let him bask in his 15 minutes, but let's not turn it in to 30 minutes. "talent" like his will eventually sink back in the anonymous sea of mediocrity from whence it came.

I understand but he didn't have that on his blog yesterday ... it was Update #2.

He's making the MINI owners look really bad and he is getting the publicity he seeks ... IMHO, some ppl just fall right in line giving him want he wants and I dont understand why not just let it go ... who cares what he thinks? I mean really ... who gives two shoots to the wind what this guy thinks about your car? How is this different than the "clown car" threads of past?

OK, so maybe he's just an idiot and not a lousy comedian ... so just let it go. The more its discussed, the more it will just feed on itself and HE will get what he wants (just my opinion) but your not going to get what you want because he isn't going to go back and retract his statements (I seriously doubt that).

To this and to some of the posts after it. This was the thing I was trying to avoid (when I posted earlier).

First people are pissed at him. Then disagreements start at "home". Then bickering starts and the main issue is placed on a back burner because the forum is too busy arguing with each other.

The above post is a short version (thankfully) of my long winded one. I agree and don't know why this issue is so charged and is now dragged on a full day. This guy is probably on to his next project by now and is over this. Well he would be if people would stop adding fuel.

Anyone figure out that it's obvious he's looking for this kind of thing and is relishing posting it? That's exactly what he wants and I can't believe people are adding to it. Why? I don't know if he found out about NAM from a irked member or he already knew about it by googling but his updating obviously shows he's hoping (and has) will get a reaction so he can post more crap for other people who have no idea who we are or what the MINI is about to think we are a bunch of "Trekkies" types and Zealots. Worse..Cry babbies.

Just as I thought. I'm sure he's checking this thread every so often and loving the attention. If you want "justice" Ignore him, he'll get bored your not feeding the "attention *****" aspect of his personality and he'll move on. I bet he loves it even more that members are in the early stages of arguing with one another. Great. :impatient

Ok folks,

Initially, let me apologize to any MINI owners who may have been offended by the videotape. It was never my intent to offend anyone. It was however, meant to be humorous, and despite my best efforts, I was only slightly successful in the endeavour. The site I made it for, Jalopnik, was quite happy with the way it turned out and the post I wrote for it. It is an excellent auto site and is unique in that we try to report on not only cars but on the "cult of cars".

Many may find the use of the term disdainful, but I feel differently. In many ways I would think it to be appropriate I use the term "cult" to describe the fantastically fanatic loyalty held by MINI owners to their vehicles. It's a great "cult", a cool "cult." There are many of these "cult" followings surrounding cars, with one following Mustang owners, Charger owners and Corvette owners as well. I enjoy the opportunity to see any of these "cults" up close, and I enjoyed the fact I was given the opportunity to see yours up close in front of Comerica Park this weekend. Its a testament to your familial ties developed with each other due to the vehicles you drive and, you know, that is a beautiful thing.

However, what has not been beautiful has been the way in which y'all have dealt with an interloper stepping into your ring, and especially an interloper who had no malicious intent whatsoever. It would be my suggestion for the next time this fan base finds itself in a similar situation, to take a step back and a deep breath. Although oftentimes it may be difficult to see the humor that may be there (although we can all agree the humor in my "announcing" was slightly dubious), and then laugh off comments you find either incorrect or inappropriate. What I wouldn't ever want to have happen is for situations like this to occur, where a community has potentially extended oft-held beliefs about MINI owners. That doesn't do me good, it doesn't do my website any good, and it doesn't do you any good. So I urge you, next time, take a step back, and take a look down the street. Who knows, maybe you'll see a caravan of Jeep Libertys (my car of choice) heading back from an off-road drive...I'd hope you, just as I, would laugh at the silliness of it as well.
