The MINI dealer closest to me is a stand-alone MINI dealership. As far as I know, the BMW dealers in the area will not touch a MINI.

Ours are together....we actually had our bmw guy (we have bought 3 cars from him in the past) sell us ours...
I had to have a little service and they are together...they have 2 "mini" mechanics that only do mini's.....the big difference was I got a mini loaner and not a bmw loaner.....

The one thing that everyone is assuming though is that the BMW dealership is co-located or somehow affiliated with the local MINI dealership... And those BMW dealerships that do have MINI dealerships will typically make you deal with the MINI reps in the MINI showroom as opposed to dealing with the BMW reps in the BMW showroom. There may be some special circumstances like you have a long relationship with a particular BMW rep or something... However when it comes to sales and service BMW and MINI are NOT interchangable....
However you can't just walk into any BMW dealership and buy a MINI. It would be like walking into a Ford dealership and trying to buy a Volvo, or trying to buy (or get serviced) a Chrysler at a Mercedes dealership...
The only way you're going to get a MINI from a BMW dealership that doesn't also have a MINI dealership is if the MINI is sitting on the used car lot... Then you should be able to buy the MINI and getting it serviced at a BMW dealership that doesn't have a MINI affiliation...

Knowing that you're in Vegas, the only place in town you can buy a new MINI is Desert MINI on Sahara & Decatur. That is also the only place for factory service. It would be much more convenient for me if I could get service at Desert BMW in Henderson, but no way.
More than likely, but since most dealerships are selling them as fast as they can get them, and the resale value is insanely high, I don't think they really care right now.

Given that demand for MINIs remains extremely high, I'm sure nobody at BMW is loosing sleep over the possibility that they are loosing a few sales because BMW dealers can't do warranty work on MINIs...
I was under the impression that each MINI dealer had to be associated with a BMW dealer, but if on the same property, in a separate building. Both dealers in Houston are like this, on the same lot, but in their own little showroom. At my dealer, the service is actually done in the BMW building, but they pick it up and deliver it to you at the MINI hangar. I did have to walk over to the BMW building to sign the papers at the finance guy's office.
My MINI dealership is co-located with a BMW dealership (same owners). While there is a separate showroom upstairs for MINIs, it's only a few steps removed from the BMW showroom. Common garage / parts / etc. Great service / sales staff at both. It's my impression that under ideal conditions, we MINI owners will eventually move up to Bimmer ownership as well. Looks like a good plan in my book. The quality of BMW's products (including MINI) and the attention to detail by the staff at the local dealership should ensure that this comes to fruition.
I've not had a car ownership experience that rivals that of my MCS.

Many showrooms are in seperate buildings from the BMW showrooms, however not all of them are... Take for example MINI of Sterling in VA which was one of the original MINI dealerships when sales began back in 2002. The only thing that seperates the MINI and BMW showrooms is an interior wall, traffic freely moves between the two showrooms as I don't think there's a door between the two, just a doorway... (been a while since I've been over to the dealership... Plans have been in the works for years now for both the MINI showroom AND MINI service to move to a dedicated building, but from what I have heard, this still isn't happening...
