When I bought my new 64 Corvair Spyder, 65 Nova SS, 65 GTO, 67 Corvette, 68 Z-28 etc., I don't remember the cupholders being an issue. The only thing any of them had were slight indentions in the glove box door you could sit stuff on when you were stopped.

Driving meant you paid attention to.....driving.
That's not true for most people anymore.

. . . I took mine out because I got so tired of people getting in the car, pointing at it and saying, "What is THAT!"

Although I gotta say, the "no wine glass" logo is good for laughs!

So how did you remove it without breaking the downtube? :impatient

I undid the screws and pull it off, little harder the first time. There is some double sided tape.

I'm not libale if you break anything.

Ok, I'll try again. I'll risk breaking the downtube to get rid of that useless piece of c**p. :impatient

I use mine for holding my XM Radio Roady 2 - permanently (see my gallery), my cell phone, and when I eat lunch in may car, it holds my iced tea.
No "supersize-me American" here! 6'1" 187 lbs.

I got these guys interested in a potential group buy so I wanted to put a feeler out there to see how many people might be interested? I'll repost in the 'group buy section' so please go here:

We took ours off, then put it back on. The built in cup holders won't hold anything larger than a soda can. The one at the rear of the center console will hold something a little bigger, but it's awkward to get to. The large one next to the radio never got in my way when I'm a passenger, and I'm 6'7"! Just slide the seat back, end of legroom issue. I've never had a big gulp in the larger holder, but it will hold a bottle of water nicely!

The three cup holders that come with the Mini are a waste of limited space......unless you drink 8 oz. waters. If you drink anything else you have to have something.

I agree the one that clamps to the down tube is not attractive but it is functional.

I place my larger water bottles in the space between the center console and the fore/aft adjustment handle for the seat. They stay put. The standard swiveling cup holder that nobody seems to like serves as my mp3 player holder. Oh, and it'll hold a container of any size that fits into it just fine when it's not holding the player.

You know, in the 15+ years I've been driving I can't recall ever using a cupholder in any car. Having hot liquids sloshing around in the interior of my car makes me nervous. After fastidiously cleaning the interior, why tempt fate by having some god-forsaken chemical cocktail refreshment spill all over the car? My friends know my rule - finish your drink before entering my car. You're never in too much of a hurry to take your time and finish your drink before driving.

Ok seriously -- what are you people drinking???

I have only ONE TIME experienced a drink that would not fit into any available recepticle (not counting my Nalgene bottle, which I just set between the seat and the door) and that was with a giant bottle of Evian water - the base of the bottle was too big.

But travel mugs, soda cans/bottles, and the occasional coffee cup (up to a large) has always fit into one of the available cupholders.

I have a camelback that I fill with ice water and I hang it on the driver's seat. It keeps water cold all day with no spills!

Have you ever gotten food at any fast food place?

Even a small drink doesnt fit in the front cup holder.

You can still use the rear cup holder with the factory armrest.

Yeah, but its useless for anything but a can of pop, just as the front ones are.

It is larger than the front holders, and will hold a bottle of pop or water. Seems to be an average size like the cup holders in any other car I've had.
