Not trying to hijak - just a comment

grandemamou - There is an XM mount made to use those downtube holes, so if wanted you can remove the cupholder and mount the Roady directly to the dountube with no need to drill anything. (kudausa.com makes the mount)

Mine was taken off within the first two miles of ownership of the car. Do we really need a car with 4 cup holders lol. seriously.

Now if you'd said it gets in the way I would have agreed, but saying it doesn't hold a cup very well is just plain silly.
Read my original post. I never said it didn't hold cups well. It doesn't hold a small bottle of water well. Ever have a bottle in there and then take a corner real tight? The bottle ends up on the passenger side floor almost all the time.

Cup holder comes from ministuff.com They offer it solo or in pairs, in different color combinations. Expensive but the manufacturing quality is on par with the price.

cheers,

But I liked this little bag, so I figued I've got to find some use for it. I than thought to buy a second bag, attach them together with the straps they came with and drap them over the gear-shift/hump.

I call them my saddle bags. Each bag has 3 compartments and the bigger pouch holds a large cup. I now have lots of little storage places for lots of little things.

What's ironic, is a few months latter, I found basically the samething (for a MINI) on a web sight for 2x the cost.
2-Thumbs-Up on the Citgo Saddlebags! That's very clever.

I use the center cup holder for my drink and leave the front two for change and cell phone. The added cup holder I had removed by my MA because I had no use for it.

I love the MINI Fini version! I also got one with my 03 Cooper, and I kept it when I traded in for a 2005 MCS, and now I'm transferring it to my 2006 MCSC!! Its a third generation cup holder lol!!

I do not like the skinny wirey design they use now at all, its too flimsy and mounted way too high. There is a trick to mounting the MINI Fini one at just the right height so it doesn't block the passenger seat from being fully forward.

Never used the cup-holder for a drink as it's just the wrong size for anything. But, it holds my wallet and cell-phone quite well and I can clip my pager to it as well

My '02 didn't have the new cupholder and the ones it did have were fine. From what I had heard, I expected it to be a waste. Now, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The one that came with my '06 is terrific. It's perfect for my Mini mug.....even a slot to fit the handle. It's within arm's reach so I don't have to lean to grab the mug or whatever else I put in it. The rubber extensions grab firmly onto any size cup or can I put in. Does the '06 have something that previous year's don't?

Short/Wide containers do better in that holder than my Tall/Skinny thermos cup, which functions as a sloshy G-Force Meter when I go round corners .

I kept my 04 cupholder and never even saw the 06 one in my car. I ordered it be taken out immediately.

The MINI Fini is perfect for a drink once in a while but usually it's an Ipod holder

wrap some heavy duty rope around it, open your door and tie the other end to a tree. now, Gun It! This should help.. if not, install the 19% supercharger pulley for that little extra OOMPH!

Mini-fini version for me, slid to the bottom of the passenger side downtube.

I even have a spare one still in the box in case the first one breaks.

This is a great thread for me! My wife and I argue all the time about the cup-holders! I have the Mini-Fini in my 04 and she has the new open version in her 05.

I think the new one allows your drink to rattle around too much and can't be used to hold anything else (change, cell, iPod).

But the best part of the Mini-Fini (I think) is that you can pop it out quickly when you have a passenger. Plus it holds everything better. That being said, I do have two MINI mugs that fit in the smaller holders! I like tea, lots and lots of tea....

It's great, but you can never please everyone. Mine never interferes with shifting or my passenger. If someone who didn't like their MiniFini would like to send it to me for a spare I'd be very grateful.

I'll pay the postage.

What happened to the times when people actually drove and didn't have cupholders and cell phones, if cupholders are getting you down drop downa gear roll down the windows and hit up your local twisty a few times, this car is soooo much more than cupholders!

Another vote for using front cup holder for cell phones. On the odd chance I have to take a drink somewhere, I use the center cup holder which is perfect.

I know we all have our different lifestyles, but for me drinks and motoring simply do not mix. Frankly, I'm too busy. I wouldn't care if there were no front cup holders at all, which is pretty much how I view them.

Speaking of which, if MINI had told us that their cars featured two cell phone (gadget) holders in front and one drink holder in the center we'd all have very different expectations about the whole thing. As with the flip lid on the ash tray (no one I know actually uses that thing for ashes), we could have different inserts for different gadgets. Consider the possibilities.

The thing that really, REALLY scares me is that there are actual potential buyers (I know three) who may not consider buying a MINI only because it does not have a "proper" cup holder. These people definitely do not get it and are not MINI-worthy. Ick!!

So maybe the cupholder pans out the MINI owners from the MINI Drivers!

Don't forget the power of fishing line....

Use some strong fishing line to cut the double sided tape. You'll have a mess to clean up later, but Goo Gone will dissolve it. Make sure it doesn't dissolve the paint...

You could buy new downtube if you can't remove the cupholder.

Before delivery, I was convinced that I wanted to remove mine too, but after using it for a year, there's no way I'd remove it.
