Soory but I do not see any info on the hp, mpg, or redline of an S equipped with jcw. Michael

These are pretty good numbers...

Red-line is the same.

HP is a bit over 200 for the JCS, a bit uder 170 for the MCS.

Don't know about EPA milage numbers either. When I pullied my car, the gas milage didn't change that much, and I get about 22-24 MPG in mixed driving.

Shoot... if the 6,300 is okay with your pocketbook, do it! I doubt you'll ever be sorry. At 33k (nicely but minimally equipped) compared to what else is out there in that price range and much higher, it's a bargain.

But to answer your question, the MCS is much more then enough power. Until, of course, you get addicted to hearing that supercharger whine! That happens fast.

Try an '05+ with equivilent mods or an '05+ JCW. The gearing change was truly a great thing. I think you'll find the "tad more punch" with that combo.

I drive an '05 JCW, and my buddy has an '03 with 15%, 2%, Alta Intake, UUC Exhaust, and some ECU flash (don't know which one)...mine has a LOT more bottom end punch. I don't know if I'm giving up any top speed, but what does it really matter in out radar obsessed society??

I just got MINI S with JCW from the factory and don't regret it. It's well over $9000 installed if you want to get it from the dealer. I knew I will want more power, so I just got it. I would have bought after market parts, but I like to keep my car under warranty since I plan to keep the mini for a while... but if you can afford it and know you will want it, it's just cheaper to get it from the factory, around $6000 compared to over $9000 installed afterwards..

My other car is a 2005 M3, so I am always hungry for power.

But yes, it can be overkill in SOCAL traffic, but hey, I am a power hungry thru the Malibu Canyon! hahaha....

M3 god I love those cars. ive wanted a E46 M3 forever now.

so heres a question, if you get the JCW, itslike $6000 on the site, then there is another $3k for install or is that with the install price?

On my '05, the JCW was a $4500 option on the website. That means that was the retail price of the parts. Installed, it came to $6250. If they're charging $9K for the same thing on the west coast, then those dealers are EVEN MORE vicious than I thought.

No way ... if anyone is paying that much then I guess Barnum was right. For the TC it should be about $6K. Throw in the Brakes and maybe $7.2K but not $9K. If anyone is paying that much ... go to another dealer

The dealer installed the JCW Engine Tuning Kit and the JCW Brake Kit list for $4,775 and $1,065 respectively. The book rates for labor on the kits are about 11.5 and 3.5 hours. MINI dealers in NorCal charge around $150 per hour for labor

The factory JCW Package is really more than $6,300 because you have to order at least the $1,400 Sport Package with it

The car is just fun to drive. Sure there are days when I'd like more power. But just go to the nearsest on ramp. When you come off going faster than the people already on the highway you don't have to worry about catching up to them. Buy witch ever one fits your budget best. You won't be disappointed.

There is NEVER enough power

When you really think about this ...

Is there EVER enough power?

If you got time to burn, take a look at some other forums like:
  • The Elise forums ... although those owners have, basically, a track ready car thats very fast ... its still not fast enough for some so, of course, "the mods" start.
  • The Porsche forums ... and here is where it gets really funny. You got a base 911 at 325 HP, the S model at 355 HP and a factory kit (like JCW) to kick it up to 380HP (never mind the new TT) and THEY complain it ain't enuff power ... after all, those mean BMWs are going to get the new M3 and M coupe with more power. Not to mention that a mere American car is faster and $25K cheaper (Z06) ... that really irks them
When is enuff ... enuff?

I will have my JCW delivered next weekend 3/18 and will be funning the Malibu Cyn daily. It will be on my way to work. Can't wait to wake up each morning and decide which canyon to take to Santa Monica

Definately try and test drive the cars if you can. However, I live in Boston (and commute west of the city via turnpike daily) and IMO the stock MCS is more than enough power for day to day driving. Pulling onto the highways and out of toll booths it is very quick, and for city driving it is great as well. I guess in everything you could always want more power, but to be honest I find myself always having to slow down so I dont get massive tickets.

Also, on the cost side of things... I bought an 06 MCS with sport package, climate control, multifunction wheel, comfort package, and winter package and the total cost was $24K. Not all of these options are performance (especially the heavy sunroof) but for a new car with this performance at this price I thought it was a great deal. I got a nicely comfortable car that is very quick, can run in local club autocrosses for fun, and is great in the city. For the money its a great deal in my obviously biased opinion.
