R50/53 Satellite radio
I got this really awesome SkyFi XM radio by Delphi. It has the same color display as the rest of MINI dashboard. I connected it with BlitzSafe as was discussed on other threads here. The only thing is that I have it sitting behind the lighter, at an angle, and you gotta look down to read the info. Otherwise it's great!

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm a bit unclear on all of this, even after reading the threads on this.
So you got a Blitzsafe adapter, which effectively makes it so you can operate the XM radio console, which is separate, without the annoying cassette plugin, etc., right? I saw the install photos, but do you know how this works? It's basically hardwiring in the new radio piece, right? And you can still use your regular radio the same?
Do the steering wheel controls work for the sat radio too?
Sounds like a great setup, one I might get!
thanks for the help.

I took some pictures last night but didn't get a chance to upload them, will do when I get home.
Basically, BlitzSafe connects to the CD Changer wires that are in the boot by default. If you have the changer, you need to get the BlitzSafe that does both, changer and an auxilury. Then you run the wire from the XM to the blitzsafe and connect XM to electricity. I didn't have time to hardwire it, so I use the cig. lighter with Y adaptor.
You can only control the volume on the steering weel. SkyFi comes with a remote, I use that to switch stations.
BlitzSafe pretends to be your CD Changer, so your radio stays your radio, your cd player stays as is too. You get another option on the radio, CD-99. When you switch to that, you get XM, or whatever you plugged into BlitzSafe.
This all sounds confusing but it really isn't. I just didn't sleep enough and having trouble putting it in words clearly.

I've been told that all MINIs made this year are SIRIUS satelite radio ready. Basically, they have a plug-in in the back and can receive their unit when it's available. When will the satelite radio unit be available from MINI? The official answer is "soon." What does that mean? No one seems to know. My dealer seems to think that it could be within the next month. The SIRIUS people refered me to Alpine who refered me to BMW who refered me to ASKMINI who said "soon." MINI didn't say whether you can use another receiver other than the one that they don't yet offer but k

VERY COOL! Yor're right on how well it belnds with the Mini's orange lighting.
I have been debating on opting for a similar set-up or wait until the aux. connector comes out for external MP3 players like the iPod. It sounds like, at least from your set-up, both may be possible. I would, however, like to find another solution besides using the lighter for power.
