Cool, you got one with the time travel option. Did you get the 2007 new design?

on the way to OH, we came down a long hill in the rain on Rt 40 / National Road north on our way through PA to Cleveland last weekend. Around a corner, another MCS comes screaming up the hill.....we both smiled and waived...we had the road to ourselves.

Cool !!! I may be Jersey Bill but I know that road well since my in-laws live all along US 40 across SW PA - and I am taking Maggie back there in August for a family reunion...

There is one road that branches from 40 several miles south of Farmington and runs to Confluence and eventually Somerset that I seem to remember as a Pennsylvania version of the the Dragon.... Haven't done it in a MINI but remember it being a true "driver's road" - insanely twisty, lots of altitude changes and some places to really get revved up. Can't recall the route number but know that it connects 40 with Confluence....

Bill

Leaving work 2 days ago (in Pasadena, CA) I saw 5 Minis within the first 3 blocks. It just may not be possible, or safe, to wave at everyone you see, so maybe cut some slack.

Here in Raleigh at least it seems that the vast majority of us wave to each other. It's getting so that I'm developing new muscles in my left arm.

Heck, when I first had my MINI, I was in la-la-land so often, I didn't notice any other cars, let alone MINIs, on the road. Hubby kept yelling out "MINI! There's a MINI!" in that high-pitched voice we all seem to use when we spot another MINI! LOL! I do my best to acknowledge other MINIs on the road, usually keeping my driver's window down and waving, or flashing the headlights/brights. I do smile and nod, when the hands cannot get to the controls quickly enough!

It's been a mixed bag for me. I noticed the younger owners wave and such where as the older ones do not.

Totally the opposite for me! I notice the more "mature" enthusiasts make eye contact and respond...the young hipsters are too cool to acknowledge! LOL!

Is it just me or the "daddy little girl" type never wave?..........to me they only got their MINI just as a fashion statement.

Seriously i think dealers should make perspective MINI owners take a questionaire to see if they're really suited to be MINI owners

Wave

Been ridng Harleys for 25 yrs. I wave. Been driving a MINI since SEP 02. I wave. I believe "Supertramp" summed it up in "Goodbye Stranger" :
Now, some they do and some they don´t; and some you just can´t tell.
And, some they will and some they won´t; with some it´s just as well.

I've noticed that young males (my demographic) do the nod thing, or do the point the finger and thumb shoot thing. Certain older folks who grew up with the Mini do the nodding.

To some people it's simply their mode of transportation and if they don't want to embrace in the online culture, that's their right. They simply are not aware and are neither better or worse of for being as such.

Are we better because we participate in these forums? They're every bit a Mini owner as you or I.

I experienced this the other day...I was driving down the interstate and came up on this girl in a PH/S MC and I did my wave thing and she flipped me off!!! :impatient Then she turned around to her snotty little friend sitting next to her and giggled OK, so don't wave back, but why be such a rude little brat?

Never got "the finger", but I have got "the look".... like I was on drugs or something. I've also seen one person get a look of fear on her face and promptly got on her cell (as if to call CHP)... sheesh. You'd think I was a mini-stalker or something. Of course California highways can be a bit strange anyway......

Had a most humorous wave on Saturday....

I was in the process of parking Maggie - like any good MINI owner - at the end of the parking lot in the last space about 50 feet from any other car and, just when I was about to turn her off, I spy a gray MCS approaching on the access road. As I stood up to get out of the car, the husband and wife were both waving and cracking up , understanding exactly what I was doing down at the end of the parking lot !!!!

The waving is a "lost" art here in Miami. There are sooooo many MINIs here that most people ignore each other and basically are unaware of the "cult" following of the car.

With 5 dealers in a 70 mile radius, and one of the largest MINI markets in the USA, this was bound to happen sooner rather than later.

Cheetos, I just got back from a 6 week tour in Stuttgart, Germany. While I was there I was invited to the Porsche factory for a day... including a tour, lunch, and an hour romp around the German country side (including the Autobahn) in a brand new Cayman S... weeeee. Those things handle better than my wifes previous 911!

Now I haven't been fortunate enough to drive a Lotus like yours, but if you like the Mini S, you're gonna LOVE the Cayman S.

There's just something about those "S"'s...

Good luck and please keep me posted.

Slightly off topic but my wife thinks that the beetle people aren't very nice to the mini people.
But one of them did smile today so maybe it isn't so.

Cheetos ... interesting observations.

"Our" MINI is the wifes daily driver while I get the dreaded "SUV" (a small one). I find myself waving at ppl in MINIs and they think I'm some kind of road raging idiot and stare away So I changed to thumbs up and that makes them smile I too see a half dozen every day, no big deal.

If your driving an Elise too, your perspective is much different than the vast majority here. I have owned several Porsches, BMW, three other mid-engined sports cars and can say the MINI culture is just totally different, far more friendlier, far more "into" their cars. Today I still sometimes might get up at 2:00 AM and look down on the MINI from a bedroom window I know that's totally nuts. Never did that with the 911 ... it was just a car.

On the other hand, I also know where you coming from. After all, sooner or later, all cars will either end up in the junkyard (or Mexico) and subconsciouly I think everyone knows that. But for now, it puts a smile on "our" face, everyday Its just to cute
