I have had my car since 8/02 and have 52,000+ waving miles in it. I have noticed that the number that wave back are less and less but its a good habit and I plan on continuing.

I care what he drives, and I care what you drive. I consider everyone who buys a Mini my friend.

In fact, if someone doesn't wave back at me, I follow them to the grocery store and steal their frozen pizzas........

I used to wave, but was getting a lot of 'wtf' type looks, so I quit.

Well put.

Screw pizza, I follow them to Subway and jump them for their Chicken Bacon Ranch sub!

well put!

of course the number of wavers has gone down, and I'm sure it was the same way with Harley owners back when that craze first exploded. It's the nature of popularity.

i'm ok with it right now because owning a MINI is a fad, a trend that will soon wear itself out. all those mid-life crisis folk, and all those who NEED to be popular and cool according to society are eating up MINIs like a 6 year old does marshmallows. 3 years from now, all of those "unenlightened" folk who bought their MINI as "just another vehicle" will be selling them for the new and latest craze in automobiles.

the same thing happened with Harley, every tom, **** and jane bought one, but then when they lost their "coolness" factor, those who weren't true Harley owners sold them, and left the real owners.

this will happen with MINIs, we just have to be patient.

(btw. to the original poster, please think out your title a little more before posting a new thread, this title made me think of you as a total cheese-mo.)

I'd say I get more waves/flashes than not. During these dark morning and evening commutes I'll flash either my Xenons OR I'll toggle the front fog lights off and on or on and off. Can't wait for the longer days when my commute home at 6:30pm is with sunshine and WARM weather. :-) Lotsa waves coming for sure.

We sold our '03 to fund the purchase of a '73...does that not make me a "true" Mini owner? And if it does, should I wave to you in your "new" Mini that many classic Mini purists would snub their noses at?

No waves from me...new Mini or classic Mini. I'm enjoying the drive...no time to worry about the rest of you. That's what meets are for.

I can't afford to care about unenthused owners (new or otherwise) or what they think. They bought a MINI, they shoulda known the inherent danger involved from rogue enthusiasts lurking about on area motorways. I'll wave at them as if they were my best friend. Some may not wave back...fine. Some may hurl curses....fine. But on the off chance that certain new owners are as enthusiastic about their MINI as I am...and I do suspect there are quite a few....I'll continue to wave and dare to hope for the best in people.

Sorry to hear the MINI owners up your way are anti-social...down here in the keys, we have a hoot....maybe the ones that don't wave, haven't gotten their Welcome Kit yet or haven't read it...Hate to admit it, but there are snobs in every group...Don't let them ruin your outlook.

I went to breakfast in a restaraunt in Hollywood, Fla. There were three other MCs in the lot. I walked in and loudly said, "Good morning fellow MINI owners, and to those of ya'll that don't own one, good morning anyway!" I was invited to a table that started out as one couple and ended up being a group of motorers...We ate, we drank lots of coffee, we laughed and shared stories and had a great breakfast. The waitress got a great tip....

If you ever make it to Key West, Fl, look for the Purlpe Haze and red checkmate MC...that's me.

Mick

Remember, a lot of non-enthusiasts buy the car. They're not into the whole "brotherhood/camaraderie" thing. Back in the day of BMW 2002s people used to wave, when was the last time anybody in a new BMW waved at anybody? People on motorcycles used to wave at everyone (I always did) but with so riders having superiority complexes because they ride a certain overpriced yet underperforming bike they won't wave back unless you're on the same brand. It's like sticking your hand out for a handshake and not getting it - you feel disrespected.

ill wave now only when others acknowledge me.. am i being selfish? or losing my mini spirit.. i dont think so...

When I wave to other MINIS while in MIB I probably get a 95+% wave/honk/smile. When I am in the Mini van, it is far less. I guess that they can't see my MINI hat for the tinted windows?

Maybe I should get a decal for the van? My other car is a MINI Cooper.

Back in the day...

02, I believe (it was so long ago, it's hard to remember), life was so hard we had to drive UPHILL both ways to get our oil changed!

It's a sign of the number. Here's one for you... I was at a gas station with my 65 Mustang rag-top, I asked an 05 mustang driver if she liked her car (twenty something-ish). She asked me what kind of car mine was! When I told her it was a Mustang, she'd never known that they existed before she bought hers, and didn't know how long they'd been around.

Ahhh, the youngsters....

Matt

OH no no no... i wasn't meaning to insult anyone! I have nothing but the most pure respect for those with classic Minis. I was just commenting on the latest, especially American, craze of the new design. I'm sure so many of the new MINI owners wouldn't know what a classic MINI was if it punched them in the face!

I, someday, hope I will be lucky enough to own a classic Mini!

(and if you were to turn your nose up at me and my MINI i would completely understand. If I had a classic I would probably do the same )

I am a new MINI owner, 10/2005. I drive in NY/NJ. It's hard to get wave around here especially in Manhattan. Most drivers are multi-tasking during their commute and just don't notice you. And flashing high beams is considered rude on these roads. I get a lot of knods and the long stare thing. Sometimes on the GSP or NJTP you'll get a little "dodge and weave" play with another MINI. If you see me give a wave, I'll wave back.

If you see fit not to wave, then you are NOT a "true Mini owner" I wave at all minis but the Classics get a BIG thumbs up

A question along the same line as this thread is, if you do a good deed (like letting someone in opposing traffic turn in front of you while in stop & go traffic) do you have a right to feel rejected (or pissed even) if you don't get acknowledged (getting a wave or nod from the other driver)?

Speaking for myself only, if I'm on the receiving end of a nice gesture, I give a wave when possible, but a lot a times I can't because both hands are busy and I trust that the other driver know his/her favor is appreciated.

If I'm on the giving end, I don't expect any acknowledgement, I'm not a saint, but I'm received enough nice gestures that I just consider it payback.

Fellow motorers in my area hardly ever wave or even acknowledge you , there is just a couple that will give other mini owners the time of day, but hey, that don't stop me from being a friendly motorer .
