Hold the key for a second when you do it, I find it works better like that. Same thing with my fogs and DSC. If I just tap the button, sometimes they don't activate, but if I hold it for a second, they always work.

Now that's sort of wierd, must be a throwback feature from the factory in order to test the circuits while the MINI moves down the assembly line............

Dunno if any1 has posted this yet (too many posts 2 go through), but I just discovered this morning that I could put my windows up w/o the key in the ignition! Had my car for 2-1/2 yrs, and NEVER tried that b4, cuz I usually turn the motor off, and then push the toggles up to close the windows.

Scoopie just smirks when she shows me new stuff every now & again ...

I thought that was new with the R56, but it looks like it isn't new. My 04 manual says you can do that for a short time after switching off, as long as you haven't opened the doors.

Me thinks you are correct. My car didn't like L'Ben at all & he told me his name was Quid. So I changed the plates to Quid. He is so much happier. Wish he would have told me the first week after coming home. He was lucky to get Quid from motor vehicle dept.

Another stereo factoid (this is true of the H/K -- I cannot vouch for standard head unit):

If you're listening to the radio and hit the "mode" button to switch to CD -- but you have no CD in the player, the display will say "NO DISC" BUT the radio will continue to play uninterrupted

Here's a new one. If you have the rubber mats, And the magnetic grille badges-

The grille badge fits perfectly in the round indention (MINI logo area) of the front floor mat.

I learned this morning that there is a tool kit in a styrofoam case where the battery is located.

Plus, if you put the key in the driver's door and turn it to the right, the windows and the sunroof will close. Again, this may have already been posted - and probably was...

The flashing defroster switch.........

I learned today that when you touch the switch for the front window defroster it flashes and automatically turns on to its highest fan speed.

I also learned that if you hold the switch in, the light will stop flashing and you can control the fan speed for the defroster...............................

it's so neat having a car that always gives you something new every day!!

I hope that this is not the case as the car ages and things begin to break.

Is your car chrome or is it just reeeeeally shiny paint?

Parcel Shelf Revisited 3rd time? Maybe 4th time?

Sorry I did not read all 50 pages of this interesting thread but I did search for parcel shelf to see if this tip was listed and didn't see it. Sorry if it's already been mentioned.

I saw the tip on putting the shelf in front of the rear seat and the comment on how clever MINI was for designing it this way. I also saw the tip about using the space between the rear seat bottoms and the seat backs when folded down as a padded storage area. But no one yet (that I saw) put 2 and 2 together. MINIs design was actually much more clever - the parcel shelf fits in this space! And hidden there it does not interfere with the front seats at all.

At least it did on my '04 MCS. I now have a Cabrio and the shelf is not easilly removed. Also the shelf is not the same shape so I don't think this works with the Cabrio, possibly only the R50 and R53?

Had this been posted before and I just didn't find it?

Here's a disappointing fact...

On the automatic climate control, you can't have your front window defroster on low... just high or off. Its pretty annoying, because instead of having the defrost on low for the entire trip, you have to keep turning it on and off because leaving it on is just too noisy.

Burley - not true! I thought that was the case, too, but evidently kclem43 cracked the code. THanks kclem!

All I do is put the fan on the first or first and second line, and push the button for the windshield vents. Does the same thing.

Hopefully the car doesn't have the built in obsolescence that my old BMW had or else it will be an expensive adventure.............

The paint is just a photo trick! The car is just the normal dark silver, but after looking at it, it would be a neat custom paint job.................

OK, now I have scanned all 50 pages (!) and all the parcel/package shelf tips talked about storing the shelf vertically in front of the rear seat and behind the front seats. (Except the one person who put it in the very back to keep the puppies in the car!) But I did not see anyone mention that it fits inside the rear seat when folded down.

Place the shelf on the rear seat bottom cushion and then fold the seat backs down on top of the shelf. Try it - it fits right in there!

you can lock your keys in the car. the dealership lied to me haha. If you just unlock the rear hatch and leave the keys in the back by accident it will surely lock back up playing a dirty trick on you

Yes, but did you know that there are 3,987 bolts and all it takes is one loose nut to make it all fall to pieces?
