I think that's a new feature of the R56 model. If you fold down the rear seats, you'll see the catches for the seat locks exposed. You can actually rotate those to expose catches that are extended a few inches from the normal position; that allows the seats to be re-locked in a more upright position as he described.

Ah, thanks. Didn't think to look at his signature - he definitely has an '07. I guess I'll just have to live with folding down the seats.

You guys got it right..those are the ones! Sorry Al...I'm a new MINI owner, so I'm still sorting out differences between the years! Yet another cool little idiosyncrasy of the car!

can you access the boot from the rear seats cooper 2006?

When you initially turn on the headlights, they'll be on low beam regardless of how they were when last turned off. The foglights are likewise off.

The controls on the automatic A/C are shaped like the MINI wings.

The annoying self-locking doors can be de-activated.

Daytime running lights can be programmed on or off per the owner's wishes.

When you activate the defroster, the rear defroster comes on as well.

There is a "pull ring" tucked under the rear seat to open the boot if there is an electrical failure.

There is a little toolkit included with the MINI.

There is a little tool to manually close the sunroof in case of an electrical failure.

The interior lights (or any other accessory) switches off after 15 minutes with the key off to prevent killing the battery.

The brake lights don't work without the key in the ignition.

The radio may turn off when you turn the key off, but you can turn it right back on without the key in the ignition.

The rear parcel shelf is designed to rest right behind the front seats upside down when it is removed from it's normal place.

There is an emergency release for the fuel door in the portside storage cubby hole in the boot.

All wipers can be lifted off the windshields, and they'll stay in the up position to keep them from freezing to the glass.

If parked with auto wipers ON, they'll be OFF when you start the car the next time. You must turn them off then back on to use them. (In case the wipers freeze to the glass)

Are these the types of odd facts you were looking for?

Anybody else noticed this? When using the cruise control, when you accelerate using the + button (for the cruise) if you let off the button at the desired speed, the car will actually go 1-2 mph over that speed, and then come back down to the desired speed. It's pretty cool, especially if you are using the cruise control to pass someone.

Cruise control to pass someone... Will the cruise control downshift and then upshift when the person is a tiny little speck in the rear view mirror? I was unaware of this

By the way, GREAT color choice!

I'm guessing the cruise control is a bit underdamped so that you won't feel a lurch when you do what you've described. The 1-2 mph excess is just inertia.

when you turn the car off, take the key out of the ignition and open either of the doors, the windows will come down slightly (like in a convertible). when you close the door, the window will go up to the original position.

if you want to crack your windows (say on a hot day) and don't want the window to come down a bit more, just crack your windows and take the key out of the ignition. when you open the door, the window will stay in its current position.

There's also a little MINI logo right next to the no wine glass graphic.

I did notice that the fabric below the rear seats blends in perfectly (pretty darn close) to the fabric covering on the rear parcel shelf, when the shelf is lowered to the the cargo area position.

When rotating through the display options for the window in the tach, when you get to the one that displays MPH, at first it appears in the smaller font window. After a second or so, it moves up to the large font window. I wish there was a way to keep it in the lower window.....

In reference to holding the unlock button to roll down windows...

I didn't think mine did it either...but I realized I have to hit the unlock button once to unlock the car, and then press it again and hold it down for a few seconds and it will then start to roll the windows down after about 3-5 seconds. Perhaps it might work for you then...?

'04 MC with the automatic AC:

I usually run it in manual mode and when the AC is off, if you turn the blower completely off, you still get a little flow of air at the temperature that was set in the little display.........but what I just noticed is that if the AC is on, in manual mode, and you shut the blower all the way down to off, it shuts off the AC too....and then if you push the AC button to on, the AC comes on and automatically bumps up the fan to the first position as it realizes that the system does not want the AC system on without the fan running....why I wonder?

Did anyone else's car come with the MiniFini cup holder? I special ordered my car, and it had the cup holder installed when I picked it up. I've had my car for 3 years and I just found it that its an aftermarket part. I'm curious if Mini started including these with new cars (perhaps because of complaints of small cupholders), or if my dealer just threw it in just to be nice...

The later models came with an OEM cupholder--the one that mounts higher up on the downtube, right around the environmental controls on the passenger side (see http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...p-holder.html). The MiniFini cupholder mounts lower (see http://www.minifini.com/ShopDetail.aspx?id=5).

Can someone elaborate on this? I went outside and tried to turn the mirror, I can sorta see how it works, but I'm afraid to break something

If you want to turn off your heated seats, a nice way to quickly know how many times to punch the heated seats button is to look at it. Two lights, tap it twice. Single light, hit it once.

Comes in handy when detailing too.
