R50/53 Forgive my ignorance - MMC???

A five page thread on NAM (in the Classic MINI forum, of course) finally concludes that it was some sort of factory special edition that no one knew about. The car sells for $5,000,000 in the FOR SALE forum. Who's laughing now...
But hey, if you manage to fool someone into thinking it is, more power to you... until they find out it isn't, and sue you - for $5,000,000.

To get really crazy, MMC should lock it down at 500 - thus creating a limited edition to the numbering, which would in-turn, give more value to the exhisting numbers.
Kind of like those Beany things.
This way, even crappy number 289 will have value.

FWIW, I have apologized privately and will now do so publicly to kdgblu. My comment was not meant to be hurtful, and I in no way meant to malign the character of any motorer, especially a hard working club officer!

Locking it down to say the first 300 would seem mean-spirited when the whole point is to have virtual fun.
But now, I got to go to Quickstickers.com and have some vinyl made up to stick in the bonnet bay. Documentation is very important. Since the threads are archived, you can't cheat so the numbers were always FIFO. Once the cars hit Barret-Jackson they are going to WANT that documentation.
However, locking down the numbers DEFEATS the purpose of having fun.
It would be more fun to watch nay-sayers (and since this IS America, they can say Nay) cry when the MMC labeled cars go WAY up at auction.

I'm guessing the silly number is tied to the driver, since people won't want to "give up" their precious lower number... which completely and utterly destroys the laughable concept of increased value...
BTW I am already crying... because I'm laughing so hard.

If your keeping it to go to auction and your not the original owner, value goes down ... so tying it to the person OR just the car makes no sense since they were assigned together!
Better go back to crying

its ALL in the providence

The number would have to stay with the car............otherwise the numbers wouldn't match..........duh!
Many well respected posters on this Forum have assured us that in 15 years, the 02 to 06 Coopers will be the ones to have and will command top dollar at Barrett Jackson.
Then there are those 02 and 03 owners who feel that theirs are the purer cars and will thus command top dollar. Meanwhile the 05 and 06 owners feel that with the superior gearing and the proper integration of the Home-Link system and the rear fog light, they will be sitting pretty. Don't get me started on the JCW devotees and their claim to increased desireability down the road.......
Personally, I think a 02 JCW with the rear-fog light retrofit kit, a framed carbon-fiber JCW certificate AND matching car MMC numbers will be the Mini equivalent of the Hemi Cudas at Barrett-Jackson in twenty years..........
