Several years ago, I had a Nissan pickup, and during one winter there was so much snow/ice/slush built up underneath the body, that the exposed handbrake cable became frozen in place. When I had parked overnight, the temperature had dropped, so far below freezing, that the ice encased handbrake cable was stuck. As a result the front (non-Drive) wheels were still completely locked when the handbrake was release.

Ever since then, I've been leary about using the handbrake when parking during the same type of winter conditions.

So ... do I have anything to worry about with my Mini Cooper? It's 6 degrees F outside, so I'm not about to go crawling about under the car looking for an exposed cable! I was hoping someone in warmer climes might have an answer!?

Thanks.

I believe it would have been your rear drive wheel brakes, I have heard of this never had it happen. But I do avoid the parking brake in extreme cold below 10 degrees F
