R50/53 Crack!
Crack!
No, put down the pipe!
Just lately (since it has gotten cold) my new MINI has developed a loud cracking sound when going over bumps. It seems to be coming from the center console area.
Anyone with a similar problem? Possible solutions?
I've tried removing all things not attached, and it still does it.
Oh yeah, mine has the factory armrest, so it has a different E-brake console.

Mine has been doing the same thing, cold or not. Mini tech drove it at an autox event and thinks (actually was sure) problem is in steering column. Have not yet made an appointment to have it officially looked at.

Update:
Finally located the souce of the noise. It is coming from the driver's seat side trim on the lower right. Haven't figured out exactly why, but a cardboard shim between the seat trim and the seatbelt buckle has quieted things down.
Oh well, something to bring up at next service.
