R50/53 An important question before I get my MINI
I always wave.
The general observation I've had is if the driver is under 25 and female, she never waves back. Everyone else typically waves back. I'm 21, so my guess is they think I'm hitting on them or something.
I also use the Mini messaging kit's paper to leave notes to other Mini's.

!!!! I love it! SB gets the credit for thinking it up, I think.BTW: Before we were a two MINI family, I drove a green Ford Taurus (does this belong in the confessional?). Anyway, Yucca thought it was funny to wave to other green (don't they all seem to be green?) Ford Taurus owners when he drove my car. Needless to say, they never waved back
(no team spirit, I guess
)
I wave, flash my lights, and honk the horn. If they don't wave back I do a quick handbrake turn and chase them down until they do respond to my friendly gestures!
I don't have a P car but... I would wave to a 914. It is more of a Porsche than the Cayenne.
Infact. if I owned a Porsche, I would sell it as a protest to them building the Cayenne.

What are the rules? Should a 996 wave to a 993? Should a 944 wave to a Cayenne? Should anyone ever wave to a 914? (
) So I must say its a relief to join a fraternity which at least in the main is in favor of friendship and comradery on road. We do wave to 1275s right?

I always wave while on the road, and put a club card under the wiper if it's parked. If I'm going into the same establishment, I can put my excellent MCSP (MINI Cooper Sensory Perception-the ability to sense another MINI owner in a crowd of people) and talk to the person. Just to say hi, see if I know him/her from online, and, if not, give a club card with the online info. I'm enjoying the social apsect of owning a MINI, and I like to share it!
I wave and honk to all MINIs I have gotten some strange looks as it they are asking in their mind, "Why is the guy in the MINIvan playing our game?"
They will figure it out some time next week.
Hopefully some of them will respond better to another MINI waving hello rather than a MINIvan.

But I wave none the lessOn ALL the MINI boards there might be a couple thousand ACTIVE enthusiasts. That is a drop in the bucket compared to the total population of MINIs. Therefore, the VAST majority just dont care ... its a car ...
In some parts of the country, a MINI might be rare but certainly not in the major metropolitan areas. I see MANY every day as in MANY ... Most are plain jane, not even a graphic. Many are "dirty".
So, if that other MINI driver doesn't way, remember that just because you might enthusiastic, to the VAST masses, its just a hunk of metal

What's your sign?

EDIT: I am also an avid stalker if I can safely catch the other MINI.
Thumbs Up!
As I watch the Pack go down in flames to the despised bears
I think the
should be the default greeting. Of course it all depends at what point you spy the other Mini, lighting conditions, your own tint status and other variables. Giving or getting the thumbs up is also a possible tip off to another NAM member. I'm loath to resort to the "Everyone should...." bandwagon but here's
at you!
Mutter mutter, bears, mutter mutter
I think the Mutter mutter, bears, mutter mutter
The days of greeting other MINIs on the road are long gone, my friend. I would place the beginning of the end in early 2004. When you saw once every other day, it felt special. When you pass another one every 10 minutes, it just gets old.

Hey, if you're into it, you could wave at all the PT Cruisers and New Beetles you see, too. Let's get everyone in all the late-model "cute" cars waving at each other, and show the terrorists that they can't take away our God-given freedom to be... uh... cute.
