Need Help Deciding on Interior Options

After much indecision, I'm about to order a PW/PW MCSa and I'm stuck on two options

- I'm debating between the space cloth and the tartan red with leather trim
- Also unsure about the interior surface. I have the alloy patina on my '02 MCS and am intrigued by the Piano Black "Seven"

Help me out!

I think that the tartan red with black would look so good on a PW. IMO the space cloth looks like a sharkskin suit. Not my cup O tea. The piano black dash intrigues me too. I haven't seen one in person though. Haven't even seen pictures of it except on the MINI site. What's the spec on the rest of the car?

Wow sam, your MINI is most comprehensively spec'd. Wonder if we can google up a good picture of the piano dash.

sambusik, I was at Long Beach MINI yesterday and saw the Piano Black 7 dash. My concern with it is that it is going to show every fingerprint and will show scratches. I like the tartan red with leather trim option idea....beautiful with PW/PW!

agreed... what about a CR dash with the PW and red/black seats? is that do-able? I think it would look really nice. I agree about the piano black... I think it will get scratched and look generally bland after a while.

Next month I take delivery of PW/Black roof Cooper. I went with the Piano dash, and finally saw one in person last weekend - I love it. I agree that if you did put your fingers all over the dash it might show more than some of the other surfaces - so what - wipe it off. I went with the black/gray leatherette, anthracite headliner and chromeline instruments. I think with Pepper White the whole black/white thing carries over. Good luck deciding - I must have changed my mind about different options 50 times.

If the Piano Black didn't have those circles on it I would have considered it. My MA has the red seats and I think they look good...and I think those would look good with the Piano Dash. Go for it...if you don't like it re-order another one

I was very torn about the Seven dash too. On one hand it was artsy and different. Then again, from all the pictures that I've seen the dash looks a little too shiny for my taste and not worth the extra $$. I stuck to the anthracite dash.

Even though you need help on interior, I can't help but comment on the exterior. PW/PW!! What a great combo. I have a PW/B sailing across the sea right now and after watching The Italian Job for the twentieth time I almost wished I had gotten PW/PW with black mirror caps. And the aero kit... and the driving lamps...

Good luck with the decision!

I like the space gray cloth- confortable and I slide around on it a lot less than leather. It's also never too hot or too cold.

I haven't gotten a good look at the piano dash yet. I'm still waiting to see some good photos of it.

I saw a PW/PW last weekend with the Cordova beige leather interior, and I was impressed with the look. I wonder if the red would be too much.

I have most mini options except the following:

Nav - I have mixed thoughts about this one. I did not like there nav when i test drove it but after a few days with it in a loner I got to like it. But still not as much as a after-market head unit.

Leather - I got letherette and love it. I am a big guy who sweats alot and I thought I would replace it with custom leather and I never bothered.

S-lites - I got the V spoke but still got all that was available in the sport pack. Which ment that not getting s-lites saved me $10, really. But I wanted the smoother tire and different wheel. Sometimes I regret this decision. But not always.

UNGO - yea bad call on this one. Nothing Ian Cull cant fix for me.

The only thing I got that I grew tired of was the exterior chrome. I could do with out this. Everything else red dash, chrono pack, yes even PDC I love. Its a great car with alot of great options. get them all.

Having driven an MCS for a few years, there were a few things I definitely had in mind:

- Keep the nav. I don't use it to look up places, etc., but love having it in map mode just to see where I am and to scope out short cuts
- Don't get the alloy patina again ... scratched it up like crazy
- Get the heated seats this time, and skip the leather
- Stick with 16 inch wheels - Chicago streets are merciless
- Get the auto so that the wifey can drive it

I agree about the Piano dash, it's pretty, but I have my doubts about if I'll continue to love it long-term. Gonna go with Anthracite instead.

Gonna go with the tartan red for the seats

My first mod will be a carbor fiber hood scoop!

Okay, I don't have mine yet (it's on a boat, though!) but I think it will look great:

CR/B on the outside
Black leatherette, "Seven" Piano black dash. shift **** in chili red

It will be black on red on the outside, red on black on the inside. The "Seven" dash has that one circle in red, and between that and the body colored shift **** I think it will really add some style to the interior.

I couldn't justify the cost for the latter of the two, so I went with the space cloth and absolutely love it. It goes well with the dark grey theme of the interior, it is durable, it doesn't get too hot in the summer.

But man, that tartan red with leather trim looks SOOOOOOOO nice, I just didn't need it.

Whatever you do, make sure there is no regret afterwards. If a part of you feels like you really need the leather - do it.

I just took delivery of my '06 MC and it has the space cloth seats. I like them a lot. I debated half leather, but the rear seats in the half leather are mostly cloth, and I didn't feel like paying MINI "half leather money" when I was only getting "1/3 leather" on the seating surfaces.

My new MC has the Piano Black Dash, and I would recommend you get it. It's beautiful in person. I would definitely pay the $200 for it again. It looks fantastic with the Chromeline Interior too BTW (gloss black with chrome. ).

EDIT: I just saw this.

hey DiD... can you take some good pictures of the piano black dash for these folks. I'm sure there are a lot of people on the fence over this and I'm sure you'll figure out a way to capture exactly how good it looks. gracias!

When I first made the order for my PW/B I really wanted the red/black leather combo but my wife talked me out of it,but after a week I changed my order because I belive that you should get what you really want and I "REALLY" wanted the red/Black combo. I'm am so glad I did. The red/black contrast really set's off the look. Although it was an $800.00 option,it was worth every penny. My wife thought I was crazy, but you get the best of both worlds. Your butt dosen't slide around and you also have the great smell of "real" leather. I also highly recomend the heated seats which my wife loves and I really enjoy for my back. I went for the silver dash and lite colored head liner so as not to be so dark. Enjoy you new ride.

You guys are talking about red and black seats and red dash trim inside a Pepper White car. That was the color combo I was most interested in, but I couldn't make the Mini web site builder make that combo work. I talked to a dealer who also said you can't get one that way. Do you all know a way around this issue?

Nuther question. What is the approximate time from order to delivery when you have one custom built?

thanks,

YD

Pics of a 1/2 leather PW in my gallery, as well as the new Piano black dash, and some of our 05 CR/B with it's 1/2 leather.

I would not have specced the 1/2 leather, but my wife fell in love with it. Now that we have it, i'll be getting it when i order my 06 RG/RG.
