I just had the window motors/actuators replaced (under warranty) so they can't use that as an excuse.

In an 05? Already? Hope it's an older one, as the 05s have supposedly "better" window motors.

I have the feature activated on my '02 and have never had any problems in 36,000 smiles. I find I use it allot in the summers here in the Shire as it can get very hot inside on a sunny day. I can open the windows from inside my office and the car is nicely cooled off when I get there. Well, cooler than if I hadn't opened the windows.

I will definitely have it on my new '06 MCS as well as having the "auto-lock" feature de-activated.

Sorry, I just tried it and confirmed that the door/key fob function are connected; it has been so long that I even bothered to use the feature that I didn't even realize that the key in door open was deactivated along with the fob.

I don't know if the programming changed somehow on 05s or what not, but I can tell you that at least one of times that I found the windows open on their own the key had sat on the counter untouched in the house the whole time. Didn't happen to have it happen the 5 months we had an 03 MCS with the CO feature.

Bottom line for me, as I said, was that even on BMWs that opened 4 windows & roof I didn't use it much since when it was really hot I'd just want to close it all up quickly again to assist the AC cooling (plus the open roof/windows just made the seats hotter by allowing the sun to blaze on them). With just two windows plus roof to open in the Mini with a quick flick if I want to it wasn't worth having the car possibly open up to allow stuff to be stolen, or rain to come in, etc, just to have the ability to open them up with the fob a half a minute sooner then I can reach the car when walking to it.

Oh yeah, have fun with your car and let the MA know that you know the real deal

I really like the auto lock feature. I guess I'm absent minded but at least this way I'm sure that my doors will be locked, even if I forget.

That is rather scary, for sure. On the upside, the place I park my MINI half the time is so sketchy, that I can't leave anything in the car anyway, so even if the windows would open up in the middle of the night, there would not be much to take. Wait .... there is that one marvelous piece of afterthought engineering ... that awful swing-out cupholder. That thing does nothing but spilling coffee all over the place, including my CC buttons, which are all sticky now.

I have my car scheduled for tomorrow morning to get it re-programmed ... should not take more than 15 minutes. Maybe I can score a free T-Shirt for the inconvenience and all ... I LOVE the "I have one and you don't" shirt.

Just be careful that you don't ever walk away from your car while the keys are still in it!

That's the reason I hate the auto lock feature, and had it disabled. Too risky IMO.

DRLs, no auto-lock, and convenience opening were programmed at our request prior to delivery. Everything is working as advertised.

Update

Just got back fom the dealer, and it took all of 10 minutes to change the two memory functions back to where they were supposed to be. Apparently, the tech activated my newly installed rear fog after he made that memory change the last time, and that caused all the key-related memory functions to reset to "default."

After "threatening" the Service Manager with questionable feedback on the impending MINIUSA QA call, I scored a free MINI sweathshirt.

I'm glad I could leave the dealership on a positive note.

I don't know how big the effect of the QA call to the MA or dealership, I know they must have all full marks.. But is the trump card

I think the autolock won't triggered once the door was opened. It only auto lock when nothing happens to the car for a period of time.

Well, just got back from the dealer. Asked them to program the convenience opening on the door locks toggle and they couldn't find a way to do it! They opened up an incident with MINI USA

Maybe something about these late '05 builds?

Let me see if I understand. You want the door lock toggle to open the windows and top with one flip?

I REALLY hope that this can be done!!! I hate holding the button.

HUH ???

I don't think that's an option. Never heard of that one so far, anyhow. "Convenience Opening" is linked ot the unlock button on your remote.

Mine 05 Jan build is able to open all windows and roof by hitting the unlock toggle. You need to hold the toggle down for about 3 seconds.

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead - mine won't even open with holding the toggle. That's what I'm trying to get enabled.

But, as someone else said, it's a toss up in time required between holding the one toggle or tapping the two toggles and the sunroof switch.

Now let me ask a dumb question....is the sunroof switch supposed to be held or just tapped?

Not a dumb question at all! The answer is "either way". Just tap it to the rear and release and it will go all the way back. Or hold it to the point you want it opened (like just halfway).

And, when you want to close it, just tap it forward. It will close to the point where it's just venting (where the rear of the sunroof is tilted up). You still have to manually hold it to close it that last little bit.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. I think mine stops if I don't hold it.

Its a completly useless feature along with automatic locking doors. So you can open your windows 5 seconds before you get in the car, big deal.

You obviously don't live where it is routinely 100 degrees outside.

Agree! Convenience Opening is a must. On the down-side, mine rarely open all the way even when mashing the key fob. What's up with that? Maybe I'll try the under the chin technique tomorrow. And does one point the key end or the chain end at the car while mashing like a maniac? So many variables!
