R50/53 Passenger door misaligned...anyone had this?
Passenger door misaligned...anyone had this?
I've had my 05' MC since July 25th of this year...and recently a passenger of mine exited the passenger side and closed the door, then remarked that it appeared not be closed all of the way. When I checked, it was closed as far as it could be, but there a small lip or gap since it didn't align with the adjacent panel. When sitting in the drivers seat with both door closed, the gaps between the rubber lining and interior paint do not seem to be symmetrical. Today however was the first time I ever (and in an act of desperation) have taken my MINI into an auto car wash (touchless) for a quick wash. (I hand wash myself every chance I get.) When doing so, during the rinse, a significant amount of water leaked in through the passenger door and onto the seat. Has anyone ever had this? Since I don't have passengers a whole lot of the time, I never really noticed if this was something that was going on since delivery or if what my MA said was true, "sometimes if someone opens the door too far it becomes misaligned." It seems that opening a door too far would be a bit hard to do if we are talking about quality building materials versus the strength of an average human being. Since this door gets used far far less than the drivers door which I open upwards of 5-6 times per day, this just sounds odd. I hope this falls under warranty work or just poor original workmanship. I can post photos if anyone is interested in seeing this first hand. Any ideas?
Edit: I have an appt. on Monday at 8:00am at LB MINI (with a loaner) to get this checked out...

Yes, this should fall under warranty work. I didn't have this problem with my MCS, but did with my Buick. MINI has been very good and solving warranty issues so is shouldn't be a problem.
It took 5 tries for the Buick before it finally got resolved...with me looking over the tech's shoulders telling him what to do. But that's GM for you.

Between the new oil, new wiper refills that don't streak (yeah i know give them a week
), striker-plate adjustment, and a wonderful SILENT sunroof, I got one HAPPY MINI!Wish I'd had my camera handy today. At 1:01pm, my mileage was 0 10 10 1 (ten thousand, one hundred and one). Looked interesting on the odo.
