R50/53 How long do you plan on keeping your MINI??????
You love it now, but what about when something new comes out and tickles your fancy?! For me, drive it until I get board with it and the fun isn’t there anymore. Might take years or months. Sounds kind of ridiculous, but how can you predict that about a car?! Lots of other cars that I would prefer to own, but it always comes down to the dollar, and the Mini is the best bang for the buck.
I just like new cars too much to keep this one forever. Plus i drive too much (it's got 8400 miles on it and I only got it a month ago
). So i'm hoping it lasts six years or so, so i can at least pay her off before i "upgrade" to (hopefully) and even better Mini.

Untill the 12th of never
Wanted a classic mini since i can remember. When BMW came out with the new MINI I had to have one. In 2003 i came into some cash and ordered my baby. Its all mine no payments. I can see myself going to a car show that cars must be 25 years or older and enetering my baby.Thats how long i will have my MINI.Until the 12th of never.
As long as possible! Our mini is paid off from the day it stepped out of the dealership in Los Angeles. We love the car, plan to keep because its feasable (I live in NYC now). I will buy the next model around 2010 when all the bugs have been polished just like my 2005 mcs
.
PS: I noticed that some mini owners were avid crx followers back in the day! I owned a 1990 crx turbo back in the day and the only reason I sold it is because I wanted to pay for my undergrad studies...only to learn that private school required my parents help
.
So...mini owner for a long time to come.

Wow!!
Great responses to thread.
Are far as this comment is concerned:
For me it's easy. I've been around long enough and had enough car experiences (both good and bad) to know what I like. And I like my MINI. I didn't say I'd never get another car, just said I'd never get rid of my MINI!!!!

It's funny when I decided to purchased my July build 02 "S", my wife could not understand why we needed a car payment ( We both lucky enough to have company cars.) and did not see the apeel of the Mini. But now she is the one insisting that we keep Greta forever and I could not agree more.

I had planned to keep my '03 MC forever, until the Midlands tranny was replaced under warranty just 3,000 miles ago. Now that I'm at 48,000 miles, and my warranty is almost expired, I fear that a 2nd tranny replacement at 80,000 miles will kill all the fun and any chance of me staying with my MINI, sooo I plan to upgrade to an '06 MC with the Getrag. So much for keeping my '03 forever.
I thought I was going to keep my 03 forever, and if anyone told me I would trade it in on an 05 when I first got it, I would have said they were crazy. So as of now, I would say I'm keeping the 05 forever (or at least a really long time), but who knows what will happen. If I get the itch for something different I may get rid of my 91 SE-R. (actually thinking of an old Saab 900 SPG)
FOREVER
. This is my 1st new car, my 1st manual car and most importantly the 1st car that I've acually gotten really, really obeasive about. I plan on rebuilding the engine and transmission over and over again. I'm paying payments for 7 years and I probally average over 50,000 miles a year so I'll probally be rebuilding it at least once while I'm still paying payments on it
. Even when I do get a new car(which will be another mini) I'll still keep my original mini and maybe just turn it into some crazy twin turboed beast that isn't street legal!

Our '02 MC CVT is a hair over 3 years old and we plan to keep it for another 2 years or until MINI releases the Clubman station wagon. At that point we will sell or trade the MC (It has been fully paid off for the past 2 and half years). Its been a fantastic car and would love to keep it "forever" (Being a first year US spec MINI) but life goes on and we may need a 5-door more family friendly MINI in the future. Also the idea of keeping a MINI outside of the factory warranty does not sound like a very appealing proposition to us.
When I got my '04 MCS (After a 10 month wait) I taught I was going to keep that one forever, that is, until I test drove a freshly released '05 MCS. Enjoyed it for 16 months and 17K Miles, but the new '05s were everything the stock '04 MCS was not... Better acceleration, nicer gear ratios, bubbly sounding exhaust, etc. Took advantage of the hot resale value and put my order for a new '05 MCS.
My '05 MCS is already 7 months old, 5,500 troublefree miles and I may keep this one for a long good while. We'll see what the future at MINI brings down the pipeline next....

Geez I feel sorry for ya

I have a 12/04 build 05 MCS and 8/05 build 05 MCSTD to be replaced by a two-seater MCS if available and an 07 MCS Works. If I can't get may hands on the two-seater I'll keep the cabrio. I can't picture not having a MINI...the car is absolutely wonderful in every way. I would love to have a lot of cars out there but I can't think of one I'd rather have than the MINI...not a single one.
I'm keeping this one for a long while
. This is my second car. I kept my first one for almost 10 years (only 80K miles). My wife on the other hand, is on her 7th in the same time span. Does that mean she'll be on her 15th car when I'm ready to get a new Mini
Not necessarily, I know Porsche has financing up to 84 months, and you know what it takes to buy a Porsche, not 15% APR.
I am at 48 months, always believed in short term financing as long as I could afford the payments, will always have equity in the car. Sorry for the h-jack, but you started it, blame on you

Forever, this means I'll need at least a 4 car garage for my current MINI, the Classic Mini, The Cabrio MINI, Elise, Crossfire SRT (I have lots of hope on this one), and a daily driver. Thankfully I can use like 2 or 3 parking spaces at work besides home
.
We'll be keeping the car for about 2 years until kids show up in the picture. Then we are off to the larger sedans (5 series, E class, etc...). We picked the Mini because we figured we might as well get something fun, cute, and sporty with only 2 doors before we really don't have much of a choice anymore. Our second reason for getting it was because the current resale value is so good. If we leased something else we would still end up paying more in the end than if we bought the Mini. Luckily we have 2 cars that are currently in the top 10 for resale value according to Edmunds.
I'll probably be ditching the G35 within a year or two to try to pick up something along the lines of an M3, Z06, Cayman, etc... that will take up the third spot in the garage for the weekend/track car.
