hi folks,

i've been doing some cybersurfing and noticed that our beloved car shows up in BMW support sites as BMW R53. does anyone know why is our MINI Cooper are listed as BMW R5(X) or what does the "R" mean?

thanks in advance...

dont know that answer but ...

I do know the current 05 MCS engine is considered a W11.

Also this website www.minitechinfo.com has really good technical information that you can access and download the pdf's ect ... directly from BMW for 24 hour period for $25 flat rate.

It is the BMW model series designation. For example, the 1999-2005 BMW 3 series was known as the "E46".

So...

R50 - MINI Cooper

R53 - MINI Cooper S

R56 - 2007 MINI Cooper/S

The "R" quite possible stands for "Rover" the maker of the classic Mini and company that was first acquired by BMW in the mid 1990's (Along with Land Rover, now owned by Ford).
