As for the SRT-4, I am going with Mopar Stage III coilovers and already have front and rear sways with rear tenstion struts. Hope that fixes some of the handling but the steering will always be unsure.. at some point I guess I will have to just trust and go for it..

P.S. Anyone who thinks that "the only difference would be from a dig...once you are moving it's a non-issue." is clearly an idiot.

Oh what, the Corvette, Viper, etc's torque curve just what, up and dissappears?

I love sticking it to brainwashed Mini people.

No. I'm NOT here to "talk trash". I'm here to talk about Minis, same as anyone else. However, unlike you, I know full well the limitations and weaknesses of my Mini and accept them. I also know full well the advantages and abilities of OTHER cars that people like you talk down about all the time.

I'm sorry, "All an STi has is AWD" is just a stupid statement. Case closed, end of story.

If you're that stupid that you think that, then you have abruptly ZERO place to call yourself a "racing enthusiast" or anything else pertaining to performance. Go enjoy your nice interior while sitting in your driveway, because a well driven STI will show *** to a well driven Cooper any day. Sorry.

And of course now that I've said that I expect you'll tell me that I'm a Suburu groupie next right?

How imaginative.

And for the record, I'm the same guy who HAS been to Vette and Mustang forums, and argued with THEIR bonehead members about this same thing! "Well, my stock C5 can take a supercharged Cobra anyday!"

Oh yeah? To lunch, maybe!

"Well, my Cobra is the best because it has 580rwhp!"

Well, that may be, but I'd still take a Viper over one.

And yes, I said that, and I HAD a Cobra at the time.

To Get Back On Topic:

Slo_Neon, I'd suggest you be aware of a few things:

- The Neon will be faster, end of story, unless you're ready to really drop some heavy money into a Mini.

- The Mini has a nicer interior, but that's an entirely subjective thing. Plenty of people who are after performance couldn't care less about that. I'm one of them, incidentally.

- The Mini handles better out of the box than the SRT-4 does.

Either way, it looks like upgrades to either car will be comparable money-wise.

All I can say is that if you love that thrown-back-in-your-seat torque feeling, a Mini will not be for you. I have the "basic" mods done to mine, pulley, intake, etc, and I still miss my Cobra some days. But on others, the Mini makes my day.

All in all, the things you're most looking for to be answered are subjective, and this being a Mini board, not many are going to tell you to keep the SRT-4.

You just don't get it, do you Tuls?

Yes, I HAVE driven a Mini with over 200hp.

Tell me, ever drive a Ferrari 360 Modena, a Porsche 911 Turbo, or a 500rwhp '03 Cobra? Ever ride in a 380 awhp Impreza RS?

No? Then maybe you should, so you'll know what fast actually feels like.

Well, then I'm having a problem seeing your logic. Nobody who'd driven the cars you mention would be crowing about a Mini that's been butchered to be able to run high 12's in the quarter mile when such performance was never intended for the car to begin with.

Show me a Mini cooper that has the suspension set-up to be able to surpass a Lotus Elise's handling, and then I'd be impressed.

I imagine it'd be possible. But you'd probably have to drop the Mini to within an inch of its life, coil-overs, swaybars, strut braces, you name it. Bigger tires(well wider I'd think), possibly a serious rash of weight-lightening. The backseat, stereo, passenger seat, etc.

At that point, you'd be about ready for a roll cage. What do you think?

Because I'd love to drive a Mini that had something like 1.04 or so on the skidpad.

Well, at least it's good to see that the Mini inspires people to actually care enough to talk, debate, or argue about it.

And don't kid yourself, the SRT boards are the same way, if not worse.

hmmn..well mine is slammed...and I deffinetly feel the need for the rear camber to be straightened...a front strut brase is too much ( I found it gives too much push)..but rear sway could be good (agai nI am not sure cause my car is so stiff as it is)....and lastly I got a 1.5 on the G but the turn was a down hill turn that starts to go back up hill at the apex so I think it adds to the G...so I need to get this thing on a skid pad...

oh and yes a cage would be great!! although I'd want those 6 point ones that have the front bars low..insted of the halo...since I don't wanna crack my head

Blah blah blah my ***** are bigger then yours blah blah blah.
*****? *****? who cares...my ____ is bigger!!

It's like this on any car-board... go over to the Vortex and get a real taste of trash-talking... Heck... I even get it on the TDI forums... we're talking about a 90 hp diesel fer cryin' out loud... yeah, they can be modded to increase power to decent levels, but some of those guys are simply silly about what they think their cars can do...

So for the past 2+ years, I spend most of my time on the MINI boards... even though I only wrench on one... even when arguing, you guys are actually trying to be nice...

Yeah, sounds like you've got a set-up similar to what I want to do to mine. There aren't enough autoX events in my area to justify putting a "full" track set-up on the car, and since this is my daily driver, I can't bottom it out either. Several people in my local club have claimed to get a very noticeable upgrade in handling with a rear-sway so that's probably where I'm going to put the money down first. And after that, I'm ditching these run-flats. They're ridiculous, and every time one of them loses a pound of pressure, the gauge light comes on, which makes me run around and check which tire it is. So, yeah, some better rubber and a swaybar and then my next upgrade after that would be some decent springs. I just can't justify the cost of coil-overs to myself as I don't track the car.

Indeed so! Hell, I don't have anything against Tuls really. Even in this thread, nothing he's said is as bad as some of the absolute erroneous garbage you see on boards like ClubSi or one of the Cavalier boards. Oh lord, those crazy Cavalier kids. "Yeah man, I just put in this kickin' intake, and I whooped a Mustang GT, yo!"

And ClubSi is just as bad. "There I was with my Civic, I gots a Fighter Z intake(or whatever ricey part manufacturer it is), an exhaust, and a some better sparkplugs, and then I come up on dis dude in a Camaro SS and I blew him away at the light, holmes!"

I wasn't disputing that it could be done, more that it probably puts more wear on the engine than you'd want, I'd think.

Whoa, what? The tire gauge light automatically turns off your DSC?? Man, next time that thing blinks, I'm gonna leave it!
