Greatgro, when I first met my now wife, she was driving a '97 Mercury Tracer LS sedan. Great little car and reliable. But you know why it was the only Ford car recommended by Consumer Reports? Because the Escort/Tracer (Later to be replaced by the Focus) were actually based on the Mazda 323/Protege, so in other words, they had very little "Ford" in them and mucho "Mazda". Ford in the UK had a kick *** Escort called the RS and "Cosworth" Totally different beast from the US designed/Made crap mobile that was made from 1981-89. Since 1990 to 2002, the Escort was a Mazda outsourced platform and design.
The next Gen Ford Focus will be built on the current platform that powers the Volvo S40 and the current Mazda 3, 2 outstanding cars.
Your past Mustangs were reliable because it took Ford 25 years to perfect it. The last major re-work made in the Mustang was in 1978. By the time you got your Mustangs, many kinks had already been worked out from the chassis. The 1994-2004 Mustangs rode on the old 1978 platform with a different body and interior. The 2005 is the first ever new Mustang since the late 1970's. That is the reason why your Mustangs of yesteryear were reliable.
If you had owned a Taurus, Tempo, US made Escort, you'll be singing to a different song.

I can honestly say that the majority of Ford owners I know spend less time with their cars in service bays than the MINI owners I knew when I was an owner. I still hear of problems with MINI's...no car is perfect in any case.
There are some decent looking American cars out there right now - Cadillac for one put an impressive product out with the CTS-V...I personally like the look. The interiors on the American made cars may be lacking in some cases, but each brand has a car I wouldn't mind owning.

Recently I drove a friend to a Ford dealership so she could retrieve her car from their service department. She had no sooner stepped out of my MINI than one of their service reps approached me, asking if I wanted to trade in my MINI. Riiiight!
Seems he'd had a customer just that day who really wanted to buy MINI.
Please, don't ask me what she was doing on a Ford lot!

Ok then so I am your grandpa

ive been blessed to be in a family that is heavily influenced by muscle cars. if you walk out the back door of my house, you would be hard pressed to believe it wasnt 1970.
i went from a 73 mach 1 to a 73 challenger with a 440 to a VW karmann ghia to a sharknose vette and i'm working on coning my dad out of one of his project chargers!
my first car had a tad bit over 300 horses, i re-lived the muscle age from about 16 to now, and i'm glad to have experienced it!

Reliable? I don't think so... You also have to be a midget to fit. I never saw such poor use of space... A terrible design... IMHO

Oh yeah Baby! The venerable K-cars brought to you by Mr. Lee Iacocca. Those cars saved Chrysler Corporation from the brink of bankruptcy in the early 1980's and took the company well into the 1990's. The Aries, Dodge 600, Dodge Daytona and the famous 1984 Dodge Caravan (The first ever Minivan) were some of the notable nameplates that used the FWD K-platform. It was later replaced by the infamous "cab forward" design LH cars, thankfully now extinct as well
Mercedes Benz initiated a "hostile" takeover of Auburn Hills in early 1998. It was never a "merger of equals" but a simple takeover. A very murky business deal that took over 7 years to generate any tangible results. Daimler-Chrysler is a troubled organization but thankfully the old guard management has since left (Juergen Schrempp) so there is much work to do to put DCX in the right track.
The only American nameplate with truly awesome RWD full size sedans. Where the heck is Ford and GM?
Now this is a great piccie! Love these two, together!
Hey, C4, what about those "awesome" K-cars that Chrysler made in the late 70s! The Blues Brothers movie (one of my favorites, by the way) must have destroyed 200 of them in that movie!

Chrysler has really improved their whole line since Mercedes "merged" with them (or is that hijacked them?)!

I can't believe the man could fit inside a Crossfire. If anything he has a better chance of doing so in a MINI. Believe it or not, the MINI has more front legroom than most mid and full size SUVs.
He lives here in Miami in Star Island. I think he drives around in a pimped out Black Hummer H2
I agree with Greatgro. Mercedes cheapened the product to its lowest point in history and to make matters worse, they rigged the cars with overly complicated and unreliable electronic gizmos. Ask any recent Mercedes Benz owner that has had the misfortune of having the COMMAND system from factory... Be prepared to hear some heavy duty cursing

I wonder why Chevy didn't get him for one of those Aveo commercials?
