Prices are already comming down on aftermarket goodies for the current engine /chassis, and no doubt will come down further, when the new design comes out. The mod items for the new design car on the other hand will be at a premium$ to gain back the cost of development, which must be done in a relative short time.

If I were in your shoes I would ask myself, -To Mod Or Not To Mod?

I also beleive that in the long run The 04-06 JCW/MCS cars will be the sought after classic of all the new MINIs.

The current generation is proven, and later models are quite reliable. Then there's supercharger vs. turbocharger and the religious fanatacism that this argument brings out. Broken recond, I'll leave that for the other threads...

Moreover, and this is completely dependant on yourself and how you will treat your car, it will take some time for the modders out there to design/develop modifications for the 07+ models. There is already quite a good selection of aftermarket upgrades for the existing design. Even JCW could take some time after the 07 introduction to put something out. All told, I'd go for an 06 (if I didn't just get my 05 last month! ).

State of Mind

"Out of Date" is a state of mind. When does an out of date car become a sought after classic? Is the classic Mini out of date?

Live for now. It's all you have. Not the distant future. Who knows what that will bring. Higher prices, higher interest rates, devalued dollar. And maybe some model changes you don't like.

If you like it now, get it now. In '07, if you like that better, trade and get one of those. Why wait until 2007, or 2008, or 2009 to have fun? Forget the "what-ifs." Let's motor.

I'd add emphasis to the '06 factory JCW MCS
