I was wondering, What is the software upgrade all about? Does the 2003 need this to be done when I someday get my hands on my Mini?

 

It will depend on when your MINI is manufactured. There is a CD 3.3 upgrade that will be available in mid-February that addresses some Cooper software issues - mostly with the CVT. If you haven't gotten your MINI yet, and it isn't on a boat somewhere, you most likely don't need to worry about it.
