R50/53 MINI Meet: Northeastern U.S., Toronto & Montreal Areas
I will organize this event, if interest level is high enough. Target is 30+ cars.
Let’s find out: (Moderators - please keep this posting on the MINI Talk forum so I can continue to gather the interest level).
A MINI Meet for Northeastern U.S., Toronto and Eastern Ontario, and Montreal area.
Place: Ontario, Canada, motoring through:
Kingston
Wolfe Island
Shannonville Motorsport Park
Date: Mid to end of September, 2003, Saturday and Sunday.
Event Description:
Saturday:
-Arrive at the Howard Johnson’s, Kingston by 1 p.m. for official check-in and registration.
-Journey aboard The Wolfe Islander (car ferry) for a 20 minute scenic boat ride to Wolfe Island.
-”MOTOR The Island Event”: A 2.5 hour ride along wonderful twistys in a great, rustic island setting. The Island Tourist Board will accomodate us with “something special”.
-Return by ferry to Kingston and Howard Johnsons late afternoon. The HoJo is located on the waterfront in beautiful downtown Kingston. Seethe hotel here.
-Free time!
-Dinner at Comedy Cabaret in HoJo’s, followed by the evening at the Comedy Club.
Sunday
-Breakfast at a local restaurant
-(if track available): 45 minute drive to Shannonville Motorsport Park for a daytime track event. That’s right - you driving your car, on a great track! Depart from Shannonville for home.
-(if track not available): 4 hour day trip via the fun-filled highways of Eastern Ontario, returning to Kingston for departure home.
Cost: Yet be be determined, but likely around $125 - $165 (U.S.) per person, depending on events. Price would include hotel accomodation (based on double occupancy) dinner and Saturday night Comedy Club, Shannonville track day (if available), Sunday breakfast and road tours.
Destination Information:
Kingston is located about halfway between Toronto and Montreal and is easily accessed from the United States.
The Howard Johnson Hotel will be especially accomodating. If any MINI aftermarket vendors are interested, the HoJo would make a “trade-show” area available. If interest appears high enough I will attempt to attract some sponsors (to keep our mutual costs down).
HoJo would also make a special rate available to anyone that wanted to arrive on Friday, or stay over Sunday.
If you are interested indicate in this thread, and also send me a PM or email to rygold@MINIac.ca
Let’s “MOTOR The Island”.

Let’s “MOTOR The Island”.
Canada, eh?
It' s only a six hour drive for me, if business travel does not get in the way, I would definitely like to attend, any chance of having this in August? Ontario can be a bit chilly in late September.

Hey jestiell:
Welcome! Another Canuck MINIac! You'll love this board! MCO is a warm corner in the MINI Universe. And coming from Ottawa, you need all the warm corners you can find!
Is the canal open for skating?

As a heads up. The vintage race at Watkins Glen is held on the second weekend of Sept. I have no idea if this will conflict with folks attending, I just want to make you aware of it.

We're starting to get interest. 10 people (a third of our first target) are ready to rock 'n ' roll with their MINIs.
I'm now working with the Toronto area MINI dealers to generate interest among their customers.

All Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo N.Y. area dealers have been advised of the Meet. Some guys even want to race from Toronto to Kingston to get the weekend off on the right (lead) foot!
Hey Guys,
Just saw this thread and I had to join up on this site.
I am in Ottawa and I would love to go to the meet in September and I will participate at Shannonville.
I will let the other MINI owners know about this meet.
If anyone is interested we are trying to get a club going in Ottawa, we had a good start in the fall and we hope to continue growing in the spring. check us out at Ottawa MINI club

alecb: Good to have you on MCO - and what a great thread for you to jump in on.
Updates will follow on this thread, and eventually by email. There may be a "committment" deposit call in the next couple of weeks to cover the downstroke on Shannonville.
The dealers mentioned above are responding positively. We may make our "OFFICIAL" announcement at an April event being organized by MINI Waterloo (1 hr. drive from Toronto). I've asked for their event info.
I'll keep you posted.

This sounds like an awesome event! I'd be coming from Detroit (via Windsor) on Friday...and I think it would be cool to meet up with other Miniacs along the way to form a convoy. Any takers??
Here's the latest rumour (and remember, it's only a rumour):
BMW Canada is looking for a special event to involve their Special Project guys in. The Wolfe Island Canada MINI Meet/Shannonville Track Day has caught their attention. Let's see what transpires.
The hotel has blocked off 50 rooms for the Friday and Saturday nights. A barbeque is coming together for Saturday eve. The Kingston town fathers will OK a special MINI Parking Only district in front of City Hall.

We're building the database of email addresses of those MINIacs who have so far expressed interest.
However, some of you have not sent an email to rygold@MINIac.ca
Not all of your emails are listed in the MCO profiles. Therefore, it is important that you email me directly to get on the "official" MINI Meet email list.
If you haven't done so already, email your interest to rygold@MINIac.ca
