OBC Average MPH Problem

Well I am experiencing my second weird problem with our MCS. All of a sudden the OBC is registering my average MPH as 2.2. Well, I have never reset the OBC from new and all the other stats seem reasonable.

Anyone have an idea why this would be happening?

Thanks.

Probably just a glitch. DO a hard reset on your car...

Display the average mpg on the computer. Press and hold the button on top of your turnsignal until the display shows dashes.

Good Luck - FRED

Does that just reset the OBC's various calculations (avg. speed, avg. fuel consumption), or does it reset anything else? A "hard" reset in my eyes would be resetting the ECU.

It just resets whatever screen you are on. Ie if you were on avg fuel cons it would just reset that. Not everything. Also, the avg obc doesn't start to compute right till after about 1000 to 1500 miles. Don't know if you are over that or not but if you are over 2000 then I would suggest to bring it in the dealer so they can do a "Hard reset" and check and make sure it is working properly.

I reset just the avg. mph. So far, it seems reasonable. I am going to watch it and will report.

I got in the habit of resetting every fill up. It's consistently 15% optimistic though.

Mine averages 10% optimistic, with a range from 4% to 15%.

I was in BFE on a road trip and the range calc said I had 35 miles left. I took 11.9gal (13.2 capacity) so at least my range indicator seems accurate.

Mine did the same thing (04 MCS), but I didn't reset it. I never use the average speed, so I thought it would be fun to just let it go.

It is gradually creeping back up. Last time I checked it had made it back up to about 17 mph, around halfway up to my old mid-30s average.
