I am driving 2.5 hours away to my nearest Mini dealer for my first testdrive of a MC. I have no idea whether the "S" is worth the additional price, or even whether I want the convertible or not. I hope after I drive them I'll know better. I do have some questions that some of you may be able to answer:

1. How does the rag top perform in very cold weather (like zero degrees)? Can you stay warm in the car when it's freezing out?

2. Will the supercharging of the engine effect the lifespan of the engine?

3. Which tires should I get?

4. Which interior trim looks best or performs best?

5. I've read about visibility problems with the convertible. Does that take away from the pleasure of driving it?

6. Why do people pay more money for metalic paint? Is it more durable, or is it just because people like the offered colors? I think the black regular paint looks really good (like British cars of old), but I imagine it's hard to keep clean.

7. How's the cruise control? Necessary?

8. Any other advice for a newbie before purchase?
