R50/53 Problem : DSC Permanently OFF...
Problem : DSC Permanently OFF...
Hi! I'm been having a problem with my DSC that has slowly developed over the past couple of weeks. At first, I noticed that at times the DSC wouldnt turn back on unless i restarted the car.
Its now gotten to the point where the DSC is off from the start...and as a byproduct, regardless of traction, the engine will pause/stutter/fuel cut randomly during both stop/go and highway motoring.
I was trying to hold out until my 25k checkup in 3k miles, but I think this situation is unsafe and will schedlule asap.
I'm just wondering, does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? (bad sensor, mods, etc). thanks

I presume you don't have "track mode DSC" fitted?
If DSC is simply off, it would not cause the stuttering & other issues you describe. If anything the engine will run more evenly because the job of DSC is to reduce power if necessary.
The stuttering etc suggests other problems - and I would suggest you do not wait 3000 miles; having the car unexpectedly cut out could be very dangerous!
The DSC light will normally come on for a couple of seconds when the car is started, then go out. If it comes on and stays on, a fault with the system is indicated - your dealership should be able to diagnose the issue.
Often the DSC stays lit along with another light (maybe the flat tire indicator, or check engine) - is DSC the only light on?

Like Ian said, if the DSC light is on, it's not going to interact with the engine anymore. Most likely something was wrong with the engine that over time has just gotten worst. DSC requires that the engine is working correctly in order to perform its duties.
