Greeneville,sc= no wave

Despite the friendly people we've met at the Century Mini Saturdays, and the M2C2 gatherings, we have found Greeneville, SC to be a wave-less town.

Like some of the respondants above, we believe that there are more and more Mini buyers who like the car, but are not into the fun.

Hopefully, there will be more like the new owner we met at the last Century Mini Saturday gathering. I forget her name, but she was absolutely silly over her new Mini purchase. That's the way it should be; otherwise, purchasing a Mini is no different than buying an Explorer, a Honda, or getting a company car. Big deal; ever'body's got one.

Mini Cooper Owners!!!!..... wave, flash the lights, honk the horn!

I was out driving in the In-laws Saturn station wagon today, and waved at a MINI I saw coming my way, but the MINI driver didn't even notice me!

I always wave or honk or flash my lights or give a peace sign or something!

I went to wave at another MINI in my MINI-less area and forgot the window wasn't down! Scrubed my wristwatch all the way up against the tinted window... ouch! Still haven't replaced the tint yet.

I got the first wave last week on the way to work. The lady in the car was happy to see another Mini on the road. Before that all the other Mini drivers I waved at just looked at me. I keep waving hoping they will pick up on it.

I'm used to the waving because I drive a motorcycle. But here in Albuquerque only the sport bike riders wave to each other and the Harley types to their own crowd. I wave to them all but even some of the sport bike riders aren't waving anymore. I'll get maybe on in 20 Harley riders waving back.

Those of you coming to MINIs on the Dragon expect to get lots of waves, both from MINI drivers and from the motor bike riders...

I always thought that the official MINI salute/wave/gesture was the
thumbs up sign.

It's whatever you do to acknowledge another driver be it wave, honk, flash your lights, thumbs up, or full moon!

I always give a sign when I see a MINI/Mini. Even when I am not driving one.

Imavunderbrah, we're about the only two who always wave in Ann Arbor. But lately I haven't been driving around town. I sometimes just go for a drive to wave at people and spread the word via the wave. So if I just wave at another Mini, I do get upset if they don't wave back and just honk my horn, flash me lights, and drive on. I am afraid the wave is on the downfall due to the mainstream effect.

A very upset MINI Owner.

I rarely see other MINIs . . . I know they are out there, but I just don't tend to see them. The ones I have seen, haven't waved at all.
But they were driving and not that close by, so I guess that's okay!

That being said, I get honks, thumbs up and various screams from non MINI owners.
Gotta love that!!!

In 2002, I waved and other motorers waved back.

In 2003, I waved and most other motorers didn't wave back.

In 2004, I flashed my lights.....hardly any flashed back.

In 2005, only one in ten motorers even so much as looks my way, so I've pretty much given up trying to attract them.....but if other motorers do try to catch my eye.........I still always try to repond in kind.

Tip o' the cap

I usually try to wear a sporty cap when driving my classic. I'll then respond with a tip of the cap...if safe to take my hands off the wheel!

Today while enjoying a wonderful ride near the James River Ferry & Jamestown VA, a BRG/W fell in behind me. Thay followed for about a mile then passed...

knot even a wave

How many of you who have posted about not getting a wave are members of your local MINI club?

If you have a local MINI club what are its membership numbers? Less than 100, less than 150? Now how many MINI's does your local dealership sell a month? A year? How many of those new owners join their local club? Very few would be my guess...

And the reason they don't join the local club is the same reason they don't wave....

You want people to wave, get them to join your local club.

If you are a member of your local club, were you a member of some other car club before you got your MINI? Or were you one of those people who was excited about their MINI but couldn't see themselves actually involved in a car club... Went down to an event on the sheer excitement of your car, and got swept away by how much fun you had....

You need to encourage the "non-enthusiasts" that they want to and need to be a part of the MINI community. Will we get everybody? Hopefully not, but you'll see a lot more waves than you do now...

No Waves

Not to beat a dead horse, but I drove my family from Greensboro, SC to Raleigh, NC and back (I-85 and I-40) this past Saturday. We saw 7 other Minis; all were going the opposite direction, except for one Dark Blue (Indie Blue?) Mini which we passed two lanes over. Flashed lights, waved, and honked horn.....no responses from anyone.

Don't know if its a Southern California thing or not, but I always get a wave back. I might have been denied the MINI salute two or three times since I first got my '02, but generally get a nice receptive wave right back. For those non-wavers, their MINI licenses should be revoked.

Wow, I see four or five a day while out running around .

It does seem the waves have slowed down (the responses to my Waves).

I was wondering if all of the Real MINI people have already gotten their MINIs and now "other people" are buying them and they just don't wave

MINI wave vs. Harley pointing

Any true Motorist will always raise a few fingers from atop the steering wheel to give a partial or full wave at another oncoming MINI.

Its the same as all real motorcyclists will point out/down to another rider. Heck, I ride a scooter and I follow that habit.

Its a signal of "hey, glad to see I'm not the only person enjoying the drive/ride".

WAVE PEOPLE! it should never become an old habit.

--Chris
ps. my scooter is 50cc, 10HP@11,500, 6-gears and 76MPH!!
oohh... and gets 85-105 mpg economy.

My baby KoopS is almost 2 months old, and most of the time we motoring out we've got peepo wave/greet us ... and that's what I like the most about Miniers (in Southern Cal)

Guys, I think the waving/greeting thing is starting from ..... "here" ..... By saying that, I mean if you feel like to say "hi" to another Minier who has the same taste like your then just show ............ "V" ...........

My 5 cent opinion

Weird! It's funny that this topic got pulled up today - I had 3 MINIs wave at me today! 2 DS's and a CR.

I was in the Newport Beach, Costa Mesa area in Southern California. Great MINI driver's down here!

On the other hand, a couple days ago a PW Cooper wouldn't even let me merge!!! I totally missed my freeway offramp and I had to go 10 minutes out of my way to get onto the other freeway! FOR SHAME!

It's great being a part of the MINI community

Waved to my first fellow MINI driver last week. There aren't too many in my neck of the woods, only 3 others that I've seen in the past. I gave a full on wave accompanied by a big smile. The teenager in the pass. seat of the other car was almost bouncing out of her seat while waving and the driver had the same silly grin I did.

As a "crotch rocket" owner, I wave to any riders who look like they're not in shock with seeing a chick on a bike, period.

As to other Mini's, I wave if they, too, look accepting. If they look like they think they're driving a bentley, then no.

My MINI's on the boat on its way to me. Being a new MINI owner, I can't wait to wave!!! I only see about two MINIs a week in my area, so my waving will probably be few and far between, but it'll be there.

Here's a "pre-wave" to all!!! Gotta practice for the upcoming big day when my MINI arrives...
