Lighter? I got an empty socket! Have I lost the lighter or maybe drove out from under it ?? I don't think my 2005 had one at delivery. Did yours?

I do the alignment ritual to varying degrees depending if I'm late for something...

I try to face the wings towards me (05 MCS), so my big red "S" keychain faces me, instead of the dash. With the wings facing forward, I only see the chrome back of the keychain.

Cheers,

I've never purposely waxed a plate...they are pretty resistant to any kind of damage!

Funny you mention this - Click&Clack recounted a story of a woman who brought her car to have the wheels aligned - so the logos on the sides lined up. I'd love to say I was kidding!

I make sure to note which way the key was inserted previously so I can have it the opposite next time. Doing so equalizes the wear on both sides of the key, makes the ignition last longer and is probably good for a couple HP.

First, I don't wax my plates. Second,I have to dodge crap on the highway everyday, boards, big chucks of mud, dead critters, big rig tires, hay bales.
My key goes in both ways, works everytime, low on the list of things to watch for

It's a common thing on show cars...I'd have to say anyone doing it on a every day driver has a few issues - LOL

Funny thread. Gotta admit, my wings have never faced the wrong way. Toward me every time. I'm kind of stressing out about the uneven key wear issue now though. I'll have to make a service appointment, get it looked at.

Well.......

1. The Key to my car has a special guardian and holder which I bought just for this purpose.

2. His name is Bobbi - pronounced with strong Indian accent. He waits for the key just as I walk into the apartment. The Key is kept on velvet material. Oh, and Bobbi is solid metal, pretty heavy too.

3. No metal items are allowed to go in the same pocket as The Key. No other key is attached to the same keyring as The Key.

4. Oh... and if you wanna see a show, put a non-Camel set of keys on Bobbi and watch them fly the eff outta here.

here he is....

Now you need a led spotlight like our interiors shining on the key

Yeah, I was picturing a little goose-neck lamp sprouting from Bobbi's head. It would highlight the complete absence of dust or other contaminants.

My other suggestion would be an incense burner of some kind ("motor Ommm"??)

My MINI key is not on the regular 1 pound+ of keys I normally carry around. Why? Because it made the 30 or so keys too bulky! I given up and decided the MINI gets it's own ring. Other reasons were the keys would hang so low from the ignition and hit my leg while driving, and the heavy weight of the keys is hard on the key and the lock assembly.

The "MINI keyring" has since aquired two USB drives (a gig and a half total space), a Fluke Volt-Light LED flashlight/voltage detector, and a Wi-Fi signal finder. But no other keys!

I reduced my normal 15 key ring down to the bare minimum (mail, house door, office door, car) simply because the position in the car sucks so bad! The stupid keys dangle on my leg! I really wish they had of had a little better fore-sight and positioned it out of the damn drivers' way. I keep everything else in my pocket.
