R50/53 Interesting thread ... Some Cobra guys upset
I know for a fact there is a Todd Knight from Geelong on MINI2. He owned a MINI and his dad ownes a cobra. So it is either him or his dad and he prob got the video from MINI2, if it is posted there.
Wonderful video Onasled looks like you've had some fun at Lime Rock snakehunting.
If any doubt remains as to MINI superiority, here's a letter from the June 13th edition of Autoweek:
Selling Italy to Enzo?
Regarding Matt Davis' May 23 column, Selling Italy to the Italians: It's interesting Luca di Montezemolo complains about Italians not buying Italian cars. When I visited the Ferrari factory in 1964, I was shocked to learn Enzo drove foreign wheels. Parked outside his office was a BMC Super Cooper, the hot Mini of the day. I asked the manager about this, and he said Enzo used the 250 GT to impress paying customers, but his daily driver was the Mini Cooper.
Hmm, sounds familiar.

You know, I love when v8 machines laugh at my evo, then I hand them their butt. When a v8 get's shocked by that mini pushing them through turns, it's just as fun. The mini might not be able to pass in the straights, but danged if it will push the heck out of those cars in the curves.
It is nice that they didn't treat you too badly over there.

(Todd came down the Great Ocean Rd with me last weekend on a clubMINI drive)
Some cool videos in that thread. I found the M3 GTR one last week... hardly a day goes by when I don't watch it... amazing...
One funny post from page 10 of the Cobra threadd:
"And, BTW, I find it interesting that this car is referred to as a "Mini". At 7'1" tall and 290 lbs., this is the only car that I have ever owned that I can fit in STOCK without modifications to the seat other than my Ford F350 Super Duty. That says alot about the size of this car!"

Dont mean to dredge up old threads, but I did a google search of my name today and it came up with this thread - where my name is mentioned.
Here is the story of how it came to be posted on club cobra:
I was at my families house in the country and was bored so I was searching mini2... I clicked on onasleds signature to find more pics of his very cool car.
I downloaded the video and watched it...
I liked the video, the MINI went very well. My dad has a Cobra and I frequent the clubcobra forum... (username: T0dd Knight) so I was keen to know if anyone knew anything about the cobra involved. When I posted on the forum, I sent onasled a PM or pager via mini2 (cant remember) about it telling I had started the thread. ( for those who frequent mini2 my username used to be Red&blackS, it is now Todd! )
I was more interested to know about what the Cobra was, who owned it than cause any trouble.
I used to have a 2004 MCS - CR/B with an ALTA CAI and a few other little mods to it... nothing fancy, but I drove its pants off it with all sorts of cars from STI WRX's, Cobra's, Golf R32's... and a good run with two guys on a Suzuki GSXR1000 and a Yamaha R1 - The mini can more than handle itself on the right road with this company.
The situation displayed in the video is interesting and may not depict all factors.
I think the biggest issue of the video that the driver did not pull over and let onasled by... as for anything else, how do we know the tyres were up to temp, or any other number of factors as to why he is slower...
Certain cars are suited for certain tracks, I think it is great to see such a great diverse number of cars appearing at track days, it certainly makes for interesting discussions and interesting driving experiences.
Everyone is having a go, driving at their level.
One other thing that I feel has to be said is that for someone to drive the Cobra fast is alot more impressive than someone knowing how to drive a MINI fast. The Cobra is a car you have to caress through the corners, anderstand the benefit of throttle control to a higher degree than the MINI and quite simply have pretty big ***** to push it to the edge...
Back to my box :D
