Hello there. First of all welcome to the site.
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, I haven't had any accidents in my MINI
(knock on wood) but I have been rear ended twice and hit from the side in my previous vehicle so I know what your feeling. What did your insurance company say? The only real incident I've had in the MINI is having my friend's ex puke in the car, but that doesn't compare to being rear ended though.

sad to admit it, but i backed up into someone.... but even though it was my fault, i was looking behind me, i just couldnt see his car... we settled it without insurance companies.... i gave him $200 for a signed statement that he wouldnt go to the insurance company....
so yeah, thats why i have to pay..... it blows... it probably wont be fixed for a while...

Okay, I know this won't sound legal but can't you just say your car got rear ended while it was parked somewhere? If the person you hit won't go to the insurance company you might not have to worry about your company finding out. Whoa this sounds bad considering I work in fraud investigation, but you did get damage in the rear, unless it's pretty obvious you backed into someone.

Well, it's not something that I'm proud of... but I was driving to Olympia, and I'd had a lot of coffee. Well, it was a LOT of coffee... and there was no place to pull over...

Fortunately, the seats have stainguard.

One year and 5 days ago I crashed my Mini quite badly. I flipped it and rolled it in a ditch before hitting a telegraph pole about 10ft in the air. I have written a full account on this site before but don't have time now as I am busy (!) at work. I was taken to hospital and the car was written off.

I don't have a huge problem with this. Why be the one schmuck who plays by the rules, while everyone else's fraud drives your insurance rates up? Insurance is a big corrupt game.

And we wonder why our insurance rates are UP!

Shouldn't even be discussed as a possibility.

You need to call your insurance man and ask if you can file a claim for something you did to yourself. Perhaps say you backed into a pole in a private parking lot, or backed into the wall of your garage, or something else.... I say this because I once drove forward in my garage and hit a set of shelves which fell on the hood of my car - yes, insted of backing out of the garage. I called my insurance man and I was covered. Now I forget if it was covered under my homeowners or my auto insurance, but having happened in my own garage, and I did it to myself, I was quite pleased I paid only the deductable to fix it all.

Just in case, I was speaking tongue in cheek earlier... just in case. Everyone knows that the prepared motorer keeps a milk jug in the car for those looong trips!

Anyway, I really did drive down to Olympia, but that wasn't me. I'm Cosmos Black/checkerboard top. Give me a wave if you see me!

How about this: As I was leaving a parking lot the other day in my red/white MINI, turning left around a big delivery truck, I NEARLY smacked head-on into... a red/white MINI!

We both chirped the tires just a little, stopped about 3 feet apart, laughed and parted. Oh yeah - we are both architects as well, racing to the blueprint shop to meet deadlines - what are the chances?

So sorry to hear about the REAL accidents....

While I was taking delivery, one of the BMW sales guys that had a MINI said he bought a set of bumpers real cheap on EBAY, painted the same color as his car. He said he bought them real cheap, so it was worth it to just put them away just in case. You might look there. I guess someone did a aerokit and sold the stock stuff.

And don't do the insurance thing. Bad Karma, very bad karma.

Some jerk off ran into me and caused $8000 worth of damage. I was backing out of a rural area where the speed limit is 15mph. There is a stop sign 50ft before where the accident occured. Obviously the guy didn't stop, was going over 20mph, and wasn't watching where he was going. You have to be blind not to see me backing out from the other side of the street. Even then, how far does it take to stop from 15mph...like 2 feet. My Mini is still in the shop. The accident happened before X-Mas. What a cruel world we live in...
