anyone know how much weight the sunroof option adds? I am wondering if this option or any others add enough weight to significantly affect acceleration. Just doing a little research before placing my order for a MCS

Not sure if this is correct, but I heard 64 lbs. for the sunroof.

I'm not sure what the sunroof adds, but it does slightly reduce the torsional strength of the chassis.

What are you using the car for? That would be the key to whether or not you would choose the sunroof option. If you want the car for track and autocross work, I would recommend against the sunroof. Otherwise, it is a great option! I use the car as a dual purpose track/street car, and I still got the sunroof.

If I were doing a more track than street car, I would delete the sunroof and the cold weather package. I would order the space cloth. I wouldn't get the fog lights or the trick headlights with washers. I would just ordr a stripped MCS and go from there.

If the car was more for the street than the track, I would get the Sport, Premium, and Cold Weather packages (that is what I got). Use the cool looking but heavy S-lites with all season tires for street duty, and buy an aftermarket set for the track. I think the leatherette is a good compromise between the cloth and leather. It is stickier so you don't slide around as much as you would with leather, but you can still clean it very easily and it looks great.

My opinion. Again, evaluate what you really want the car for. I've driven both stripped and loaded MCS's, and the seat of the pants difference is minimal - but I'm sure lap times would give a nod to the stripper.

I have an MCS with the sunroof. I wasn't planning on turning this car into a track car, but the bug has bit once again.

I have all the extra packages and the sunroof. If I was really serious about taking this car to the track I would have deleted the same things as you. Maybe find some other ways to get rid of weight as well.

Interesting that you pointed out the sunroof compromises torsional rigidity - I agree.

How much do you think front and rear strut bars help out the car?

I know in the M3 world (E36), the verts have an xBrace installed to help torsional strength. I installed the xBrace on my coupe (non-vert) and noticed better turn-in. But, strut bars on the M3 don't really add that much (well maybe with the bling factor).

Any thoughts?

I've read 30 lbs elsewhere in these forums, but I don't know if that person knew for sure, either.

I would jettison all of my other options except maybe the sport seats before getting rid of the sunroof (not that my car is loaded or anything) - it is amazing. I think that MINI should have made it all caps, just like the car. It is a SUNROOF.
